We have the Graco Element Pack N Play Playard-Melanie. It was purchased off our baby registry at Buy Buy Baby by our wonderful friends Jon and Natalie Bennet. (Note: If you’re unfamiliar with Buy Buy Baby, it is part of the Bed Bath and Beyond family and accepts their 20% coupons! SCORE!)
The Pack N Play was one of those things that was just “on our list” because it should be and we weren’t 100% sure how much we’d use it. We picked the element because it had a bassinet level and a changing station. In my mind, I would set up the P&P in our living room and keep a changing station there in addition to the changing station in Caroline’s nursery (that didn’t happen and we quickly tossed the changing station piece of the P&P…and the little flower thingy.)
When Caroline hit the age where she was sitting up 60% of the time, we set up the P&P in our living room and started putting her in there to play. We had wood floors in our first home and any tumble would have been a catastrophe, so this was a safer option for us. It never seem to bug her and it was a huge help to us because we knew if she did have a “Timmberr” moment, she was in her cushy Pack n Play and not crashing on our wood floors. Here she is hamming it up in January 2011 and no worries, we always pulled her away from the brick fireplace.
Caroline was a late crawler but always active (if that makes sense) so since we had the P&P out, we would just let her play it up in there. We later started calling it “Baby Jail” because she would hang out in there while mommy and daddy cooked, cleaned and relaxed..
She’s 15 months old now and we set it up for her to nap in because she gets stuck in her crib and wakes up, the mesh walls help keep her zonked out and yes…that’s a binky (or “bibi” as Caroline calls it!)
We have probably used the P&P for travel less then 10 times but it’s been 100% useful in many other ways. It’s a MUST HAVE and “Worth It Wednesday” for SURE!
