I’ve never wanted to be pinned so badly as I do now.  Ha!

Two days ago, Allison and I celebrated the births of our little cuties with a birthday bash to remember. We’ve already shared a few details with you, like the invitation featuring our picture perfect babes thanks to Jennifer Stamps Photography and the quest to make the perfect cakeball, but we thought we’d share some other details for any other party planning mamas out there.

The Theme:

When Allison mentioned she wanted to get a petting zoo, I thought a western theme would do the trick.  We introduced the theme with the invitation and carried it out with the welcome sign, garage door banner, red bandanas and twine throughout the event.  Allison even brought in a little country when making the cake ball display, but more about that later.

The Food:

The most pinnable part of our party (I think) was Allison’s incredible food ideas. On the menu was: fresh fruit, caprese sticks, deviled eggs, tacos, chicken nuggets, guacamole, steamed sausage and cream cheese, taquitos, and seven layer dip.  I think we took some of these food items to the next level with our incredibly creative items names, ex: tacos were called “Tejas Tacos” and the deviled eggs were called “Western Huevos” and personalized display.  Not only did we have seven layer dip, we had PERSONALIZED seven layer dips.  When Allison sprung the idea on me, I answered by saying, “that’s ambitious but I will support your ambition.”  Little did I know that I would be knee-deep is seven layer dip items for several straight hours. The labor was way worth it when people commented on how delicious it was. Equally labor intensive and delicious was the “snake on a stick” (sausage with cream cheese.) I believe I heard the words, “divine and heavenly” used in the same sentence.

The Entertainment:

We contracted the El Rancho Pony Rides and Petting Zoo for two hours, had lots of toys for kids of all ages and resorted to hooking up a water toy for our younger guests.  Boy oh boy was it a hot one!  The Petting Zoo was a big hit.  Lincoln got the first pony ride as the birthday boy.  Caroline was mortified of Mr. Ed, but she liked the other animals.

The CAKE:

It’s no secret Allison was nervous about the cake ball situation.  Well, truth be told, they were pretty damn perfect. So, maybe she’s not going to win an award for “Most Evenly Dipped Cake Balls” or “Most perfect drizzle decoration”, but they tasted DIVINE, they looked perfect (by everyone but Bakerella’s standards) and she displayed them to perfection. We had some first-time cake ball tryers at the party and they were practically drooling.  All of her worry was for nothing–they were perfect!

The Birthday Cuties:

Allison found the most PERFECT shirts for our western cuties at Cavenders off Ben White. Getting a picture of two toddlers is quite the challenge (as we’ve blogged about before) but thanks to Allison’s MIL extraordinaire, we got these.

We can’t believe our most precious gifts are two years old.  All-in-all, it was pretty awesome having a double party.  It was more fun prepping for things with my partner in crime and it was great to gather with some of our mutual friends and also meet some of each others friends.  Now, to plan for the third birthday party!
