I love music…I’ve recently become OBSESSED with Spotify. Best $10/month…ever. Anyway, I have playlists for everything, every mood and every occasion.

Girly Music=When I feel like twirling my hair and applying my lip gloss in the daintiest of ways, I like to listen to Taylor Swift.

Womp Womp= When I feel like my life is over and I’ve simply had enough, I like to listen to Chasing Cars, Dashboard Confessionals and Counting Crows.

80s Music= This requires no explanation.

You get the picture. Well, as I’ve been playlist-building while participating in my new hobby that is Spotify, I started to think that a Delivery Room Playlist might be helpful for those of you that might have a bun in the oven or are starting to grow your family…so without further delay…if I was preggo (which I’m not) and about to deliver (which I’m not), this is the start of some of the music that would get me through the deed.

1. Push It by Salt-N-Pepa. Duh…it basically walks you through the steps “Ahhh push it…push it real good!”

2. Whoomp There it Is by Tag Team. Nothing like a 90s favorite to get your adrenaline going and make you want to get into a rhythmic pushing. who could be stressed with a “shacalaca shacalaca boom!” in the background?

3. I Want to Hold Your Hand by The Beatles. Sweet song that has a good beat that speaks the truth, you can’t wait to hold that little hand. The Glee version lives on my “Womp Womp” list but their version is good.

4. Whip It by Devo. Same reasons as 1 and 2–upbeat, easy to sing to and just one of those songs that makes you smile no matter the pain.

5. Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen. I love this song it talks about not letting anything get in your way and in the throws of labor I’m sure a little motivation is helpful. It also says “I’m having a good time…” but you can ad lib that line.

Alternatively, here are some songs that I absolutely would not want to hear. A play on words would not be high on my list during labor.

1. Wide Open Spaces by the Dixie Chicks. No way and no explanation needed.

2. Baby’s Got Back (I like big butts…) by Sir Mix a Lot. I know my butt is big, no need to celebrate that right now.

3. Under Pressure by Queen. I know I’m under pressure, dammit. Stop rubbing it in.

What about you, what would be on your playlist?

It looks like Mama V would need some 90s.

  1. I think anything would irritate me. We didn’t have music in the room when Trent was born, and I don’ think I intend this time either. Although I should think about it more maybe…especially if I try to go longer without an epidural. Hmmm…

  2. I could have had music with my first 2 because I had an epidural, but there is no way with Porter or any future ones because there would be NO drugs….the only type I would consider would be very calming nature sounds…think good spa music 🙂
Now if I had an epidural then I am loving your list…..love me some 80’s and 90’s music 🙂
