When I was home with Trent on maternity leave, I trained my hair to only ‘need’ to be washed every other day. I didn’t feel like I had the time to wash it every day, and I knew it wasn’t good for it to be washed so much. It took some time for my hair to adjust, but I have loved not having to wash my hair every day.

Fast forward 3 1/2 years and I’m still only washing my hair every other day. But I’m starting to get build-up on my scalp. I don’t know if it is from the shampoo I’m using or what…but it’s gross regardless. {TMI?}

While reading a blog a while back, I found the concept of washing your hair only with baking soda and not needing to wash your hair very often.  Hence…NO POO! Clever, right? The more I’ve read the more interesting it sounds. I mean, if you think about it, shampooing strips our hair of its natural oils which causes our body to work like crazy to replace those oils. The more often we wash our hair, the more oil we produce to replace what we’ve stripped. It’s a nasty cycle! From what I’ve read, some women use the baking soda as infrequently as once or twice a month while some use it about once a week. The goal is to use as infrequently as possible to let your hair produce the oil it needs and no more.

Sounds easy, natural and cheap, right?

Well, it comes at a price. It can take a long time {weeks and weeks} for your hair to adjust to not being shampooed on a regular basis. Meaning you will still produce as much oil as you did when you were shampooing your hair and stripping the oil…except you aren’t stripping the oil anymore which results in a greasy mess. Sounds appealing, I know. Fortunately, I have another 7 weeks on maternity leave with Miss Drew {I say fortunately but I want to bawl every time I think about going back to work…so please, let’s not talk about it}, so I am thinking about trying it and hopefully my hair will adjust before I start back at my job.

I just don't want to look like this!

Anyone have experience with No Poo? Do I sound totally crazy?
