Sleepy GirlI am a self-proclaimed monkey brain. Seriously, I sleep with a note pad next to my bed in case I wake up with a brillant work idea. Sometimes I can’t go to sleep because I am thinking of all of the things I need to do and want to do that will make my new organization bigger and better (Ahh the joys of working for an amazing start-up organization!) So, several years ago I started taking Ambien to help me sleep. It was AWESOME. A complete wonder drug that I would have continued to take except for the fact that I got pregnant.  {Funny story: One of the first adult sleepovers that Matt and I had involved me offering him an Ambien. He likes to tell people I drugged him…which is partially true.} Any who, being pregnant with Caroline got me off the Ambien which wasn’t good or bad, it just happened.

While working for a school, my monkey brain was worse than ever and I started taking Benadryl to help me sleep occasionally.  I knew I could take it, it would knock me out in thirty minutes and the next thing I knew I’d be bright-eyed and bushy tailed come the morning. I figure taking Benadryl is not a good habit to form, so I started looking for other sleeping aids. Enter ZzzQuil, NyQuil-branded sleepy potion.

Pros: It works like a champ and it is not habit forming.

Cons: It tastes nasty, it makes me feel drugged before I knock out, if I wake up before getting a full eight-hours I’m still groggy and it is kind of expensive.

All-in-all, ZzzQuil is WAY worth it, even with its cons, for someone like me who has trouble sleeping.
