B-Day

Last month we shared a few of our favorite local ideas for birthday parties for ages 1-5, this month we are doing the same for ages 5-9. Two of my kiddos fall into this category, until this fall when my oldest hits the bog double digits…yikes! I have had a lot of fun planning birthday parties for them. {As previously mentioned, I LOVE planning parties} I definitely think that this age group has so many great options for party spots & ideas. A few favorites are:

1. Extreme Fun jumpy place on Anderson Mill in Austin. It has a wide variety of jumpies, including a couple obstacle course type bounce houses, plus {my kids favorite part} a foam pit! There is even a toddler area for the younger siblings. There are quite a few party package options ranging from basic to private parties, plus you can book online! My oldest had his 7th birthday party there and him & all of his friends loved it!

2. Round Rock Express is where we just had my 7 year olds birthday party and it was by far a favorite of the kids and adults! I am really not sure who had more fun! There are a few party options and ways to set it up, just all based on what you want. We had seats on the lawn and a table right next to the kids zone {which is right next to the lawn}, so the adults could sit at the tables and/or lawn while the kids either played in the kids zone and/or watched the game and see the kids at all times. The kids also got to run out on the field with Spike in between one of the innings. Since it was a Friday game there were also fireworks right after the game, which everyone loved. Who doesn’t love fireworks? That is a party that we will definitely be doing again!

3. Your local park makes a great place for a birthday party…..it has all of the entertainment built right in, usually for multiple ages too! Bonus! Plus the cost is very minimal, usually you can just show up early, grab some tables, and just bring food, drinks, and cake. Easy peasy! Some specific great parks are:

Zilker Park {an Austin staple} How can you top an amazing playground, a train ride, and snow cones? Kinda hard to do right!?

Shipe Park on 45th Street – this park has a great playscape along with a big pool and a wading pool for the littles

Little Stacey Park in Travis Heights – this park also has a great playground and wading pool

Round Rock All Abilities Park {this is a personal fave of mine!}

4. Main Event is a super fun place, prices can be high but pretty reasonable for what you get, plus there is a party assistant who does everything for you. You literally just show up with a cake and favors and enjoy the party with your kiddo, they provide the food and entertainment. We did my oldest son’s 9th birthday there with bowling and laser tag – every kid had a blast and was worn out by the time we were finished.

5. Ceramics Bayou in Bee Caves or a similar place around town would be fun for this age group, especially for girls. My 4 and 7 year old would have fun with this, but not so much my 9 year old {just based on their personalities}. I haven’t ever been to a party, but have taken my kids for fun and we loved it! Each kid gets to pick a piece of pottery to paint as they wish then take it home….party and favors all in one…SCORE! A few other places around town are: Splatters Pottery Studio, The Art Garage, Ceramic Lodge

We have also had numerous birthday parties at our local neighborhood pool, which is always easy and can be really cost effective. Local splash parks are another great option for those summer birthdays.

I’m sure there are so many places around our great city that aren’t on this list, so tell us…where are your favorite places for birthday parties?

  1. Another fun spot that has popped up since this was written is Game Plan Entertainment, which is a private arcade owned by my husband, Michael, and I. It is great for kids birthday parties and is filled with retro games (all your favorite classic arcade and retro consoles), current console games (XBox 360, Playstation, 3, and Wii U), as well as air hockey, skeeball, basketball, ping pong, and more. The space is private, and all of the games are set to free-play so no need to worry about tokens or game cards. We’re located near the southeast corner of IH35 and Ben White and would love to give you and your kiddos a tour sometime! You can check out our website as well: http://www.GamePlanEnt.com.

  2. While not as well suited to 5 year olds, Races2U slot car racing is great for kids from 6-60. With both in-store and on-site options, you can’t go wrong with this fun, safe, and interactive activity.
