So, the husby and I recently celebrated our 10 year anniversary. TEN YEARS YOU GUYS! That’s some serious business. Obviously we needed to take a few hours away from our precious babes, and have a little date night. Like a lot of married couples with young children, the way we approach and enjoy a date night is a bit different than it used to be – but it’s still oh, so necessary! So, here’s the dish:

The Outfit:
I knew I wanted to be cute and comfy, and wear something that I don’t ALWAYS wear. Well, I had a darling dress with chartreuse polka dots and belt picked out. Throw on a bright cardi (for those chilly restaurants) and call it a night. Well, then my kiddo hugged me with dirty hands, so I had to have a last minute costume change. Boo!

I ended up with a faithful favorite: strapless red dress (a complete score from budget friendly Old Navy), polka dot wedges, and a fun black and white necklace. Nothing too fancy, but comfy and cute.

My cute husband donned some great jeans and a simple black button down. In the end, we both were wearing things we’ve worn before, but we felt good and that’s all that really matters.

The Appetizer:
We went for a progressive style dinner – App’s at one location, main course at a second, and dessert at a third. We love to do this as we get to visit several places, and it makes the meal last a little longer!
For our appetizer, we hit DK Sushi Market on Lamar. This place is a TOTAL hole in the wall – I would never stop there on my own! However, they have some killer, classic sushi! They recently expanded to have more seating and now offer karaoke (and saki bombs – awesome!), so we’ll definitely be hitting that up next time. We had edemame and Red Snapper. It’s killer.

The Main:
For our second stop, we went to another place that is off the beaten path. I am hesitant to even mention it because it was so great, I don’t want to share this sweet spot. But, because I’m nice, I’ll let you in:  epicerie. Located off Hancock Drive, this cafe and grocery is lovely. A small menu that packs a lot of punch and lovely wine selections. Jared had the gnocchi and absolutely loved it. I had the tri-tip with okra and fries and it was to die for. The service was great, and the atmosphere was almost perfect.  I loved the whole vibe of this small venue, and the lighting, layout and decor was spot on.   The only complaint was that I was FREEZING for the entire meal. (Remember how I had intended on taking a cardi with my first outfit…yes, well, forgot that with the second outfit. Boo!) We will definitely go back again – I am looking forward to trying everything on the menu.  Just with a sweater next time.

The Sweet Ending:
We actually were going to buck tradition and have dessert at epicerie, but they sold out of Creme Brulee (go early!), so we jumped in the car and headed to another favorite of ours: Amy’s Ice Cream. A yummy scoop of mexican vanilla with strawberries mixed in was a great way to cap off our evening.

All in all, it was a really fun night – and even thought it wasn’t the late night party time that we used to have on our date nights, it was perfect. And we knew we made the right choice in having an early evening when our kids were up by 7 the next day. My, oh, my…how times have changed.

What your favorite date night in Austin? Have a good date night dish to share??
