Hey Austin Mommas! Long time, no see!!!! I hope
you all are having a fabulous 2014 so far, and have had some time
to set a few goals for yourself and your family. For me,
resolutions are just empty promises that are easily broken.
Goals, however, can be more concrete, measurable, and
sustaining throughout the year.

For 2014, our family decided
rather to set goals for each person or several goals for the
family, that we’d have an official word of the year that
encapsulates all that we want to strive for in 2014. And our word
of the year is…. GROW.

This can be applied to so
many things….spiritually, personally, literally, etc. We’ve
talked about growing our testimonies, growing a garden, growing our
love for others, growing our talents, growing in knowlege. In
fact, there are so many ways we can grow this year, that we took it
a step further to concentrate each month on a specific way we can
grow…and in addition, we plan to journal them for future
reference. This month, the Jansens are focusing on growing
our testimonies. This can mean studying the scriptures,
fasting and tithing, etc. Obviously for our little ones, this
may be simply learning a new song about Jesus or something of the
like…but we feel that the spirit of growth can be felt and
realized in all ages.

So what is your family’s new year tradition for bettering oneself? Do you make goals?
Do you make resolutions? Do you write them down and/or discuss as a family?
Or is it more of a year-long journey of discovering which areas of your family’s life can be changed, grown, and improved?

I wish each and every one of you a very blessed and happy 2014….may it be filled with new experiences and joy for your whole family!!!
