If you have a child, it’s 99.9% possible you’ve had a pee-in-the-bed situation. Now normally I don’t pay too close attention to my mattress, but for some reason, on this fateful Sunday, I was pretty damn repulsed at my bare mattress. I know you’re with me if you’ve been through potty training.
Seriously, talk about gross. The funny thing is that we had a mattress cover at some point, but somewhere between Dallas and Austin, it got lost.
So, what’s a mom to do with a mattress that looks like a small animal died on it? Figure out how the heck to clean it is what.
After a bit of research I stumbled across two different solutions and one of them worked like a charm! Instead of hoarding this knowledge in my mind, I thought I better share it with the masses as this, my friends, was a #mattressgamechanger.
Here’s what you do:
1. Take a measuring cup and pour 8 ounces of Hydrogen Peroxide in there.
2. Take Three Tablespoons of baking soda and pour it into the peroxide. Mix it a little.
3. Pour the mixture in the spray bottle
4. Drop literally one drop of dish soap in the bottle.
5. Mix it up
6. Get sprayin’
Spray as much of the bottle as you want on the stains you have on the mattress. Put your ceiling fan on high and in about an hour…VOILA!
I know! CRAZY amazing how it worked. Now after the first hour there was still some yellowishness, but after the second run it was completely gone!
Amazing–go try it!
Thanks for this tip, it does help me clean our mattress, I thought about using Hydrogen Peroxide but I was not so sure about that
How can I keep my spray bottle from getting clogged. I get about 2 full sprays before it cloggs up. Help please!!
Help!!! I can only get about a sprayer to before my spray bottle clogs up, how do you keep your spray bottle eat from clogging up …please help!
I personally would use warm water to help dissolve the baking soda (1 tsp). Hopefully that will do the trick.
That’s a nice way of dealing with the consequences but the best thing would be to have the mattress protected beforehand.
Except for the horrible TOXINS contained in the solutions that are used to “protect” them.
My spray bottle won’t even spray this mix…
Tried this today and it worked so well! The stains disappeared almost instantly. Thank you so much!
I read a question a minute ago that wasn’t answered. Maybe you didn’t see it. My mattress is blue. Will the peroxide discolor it?
I did this but mattress is pastey help also pillow top with blue sticking seems to have bleached it how do I get rid of pastry residue and feeling ….
Vacuum! Vacuum! Vacuum!
You MUST wait until everything is dry.
Just wondering if this works on all stains, not just urine. My husband often has a cup of coffee in bed and I find droplets and splashes here and there. Like you I seemed to have misplaced my mattress cover!
Okay I am impatient and couldn’t wait for a response so I tried this on my coffee stains and IT WORKED!! Seriously could not have been easier so I decided to add one more step as well. Once my mattress was dry I sprinkled baking soda all over the top and let it sit for a few hours. I vacuumed off and voila! A beautifully deep cleaned stain free mattress with s fresh scent. Love it!
