I honestly don’t think there’s anything much cuter than a Daddy with his daughter.

Especially my baby daddy with our daughter {grin}. I’ve thought a lot since having a girl about the role my husband and I will play in raising her to be a strong, self-sufficient, proud young woman. And I think so much of that lies with the father. So what is the most important thing a father can teach his little girl? I’m so glad you asked! Some of these may be no-brainers, but come on?… Raising kids is hard and sometimes we need reminders!!!

Here are the TOP 10 things a Daddy should teach his Daughter (Some Obvious… And Some Not So Obvious)

What a Daddy Should Teach His Daughter, Austin Moms Blog

1. Affection:

It is so important for a father to show his daughter affection. And Mommy affection. And other children affection. So often men come across as closed off with their feelings or stand-offish. A girl can learn how a good man should treat the people he loves just by observing how a good father treats their family. Drew will never doubt her father’s love or what she should expect from a man!

2. Confidence:

A young woman in today’s society is too often lacking in confidence. In this world of bullying, our girls need to learn how special each of them are and a daddy is a great person to help them with that. Drew will grow up learning how smart, sweet, special, brave, strong, and wonderful she is.

3. Common Sense:

Brent jokingly {at least I think jokingly} said this could go on the list 3 times. One of his biggest complaints about me is that I’m more ‘book smart’ than ‘street smart’, and he pretty much refuses to let Drew grow up like that.

4. The Rules of Sports:

It doesn’t matter if it’s baseball, soccer, or cheerleading, make sure she knows the rules of sports.

5. How to Throw a Ball:

It’s important that she learns to throw a ball… she will hopefully be a mom one day and these skills could be necessary for your future grandson. And it’s important to get out there and play ball with your little girl. Girls need to be outside to play, too!

6. How to Change a Tire:

Hopefully she never needs to change her own tire, but you never know?! And it’s always best to have some sort of idea where the spare is even located! Show her once and call it a day.

7. General Car Maintenance:

It makes sense to not get fooled by the neighborhood mechanic or any other mechanic for that matter. She doesn’t need to know how to change her own oil, but at least make sure she knows when it’s time to get the oil changed.

8. How to be Respected by Boys:

Girls have to DEMAND respect. I learned a long time ago that a woman should always have the upper hand :). And once you lose a man’s respect, you can never earn it back.

9. To Believe in Yourself:

It’s extremely important that a girl/woman believes in herself; it will give her the confidence so that others will believe in her as well.

10. How Not to Fall For a Loser:

I mean this SHOULD be common sense, right? WRONG! All girls will succumb to the loser boyfriend at least once, but if you teach her the above skills, the chances will “hopefully” be slimmer.

With our daughter only being 18 months, we know she still has A LOT to learn and be taught, but these are the top 10 things we deem important…today! DaddyandDrew

What do YOU think should be on this list?
