We all know that exercise during pregnancy is one of the best things a mom can do for herself and her baby.

Things change a bit when you’re pregnant so you may find yourself looking to replace your high intensity, pre-baby workout with something a little more suited for your new, ever changing body. Or you may find yourself wanting to start a routine to keep you and your baby healthy. Whatever your reasoning is, Barre3 is a great way to keep mama hot and sexy during pregnancy.

Barre 3 is a combination of Pilates, Yoga and Dance. It focuses on isometric movement, light weights, small range of motion, and low intensity workouts which are perfect for prenatal mommies. Strengthening the small supporting muscles in the body through Barre can help a changing body grow stronger to support the weight of a growing baby. Bonus, the strength developed at the Barre can play a huge role in the ability to deliver the baby. It’s also great at fighting the ever popular flat butt syndrome that sometimes comes with pregnancy!

A friend encouraged me to try Barre3 when I got pregnant and now I am so thrilled to encourage other pregnant mommies to try it. Your body, mind, bootie and baby will thank you!!

Here is what you need to know before you bring your bump to Barre:

  • Childcare: Not only do they have childcare, they have GREAT childcare!! There are only about eight kids to a class so you’ll need to reserve your spot early (especially for those mid-morning classes). I recommend calling the girls at Barre 3 and letting them know you’ll be coming for a class with your child.
  • What to wear: A portion of each class is on the mat so wear something that you will feel comfortable moving around in.
  • Yoga clothes are great! (If you’re like me you won’t even need to change from your daily norm! Wink!) You may see some ladies running around with Toe Socks on to protect the bottom of their feet but these are totally optional. If you do decide you’d like to try em there are several different styles for sale in the lobby.
  • The Staff & Energy: You are going to LOVE the ladies at Barre 3! Each one of them is pumped to be there and they will be even more pumped that you and your bump are there!! (Be prepared, their excitement about your pregnancy is going to leave you wondering if you have been friends with these ladies for years). Be sure to let them know you are pregnant before class. They will watch out for you and provide modifications as needed. Guaranteed you are going to leave with a smile on your face just from being around these ladies!
  • Twisting & Ab Work: There will be portions of the class where twisting or intense ab work is cued – pregos should avoid this by taking a modification that is gentle and safe for the baby. It’s still important to work those deep transverse abs during pregnancy. The instructor will provide great modifications and alternatives during this portion of class that will help you tap into those supporting muscles. Have I mentioned that the staff at Barre 3 is the best???
  • Your energy level: Whether you’re feeling super energized from your pregnancy or you can barely drag through the day, Barre 3 can fit into your life. Every workout will include options to modify up or down so even on your most tired days (which who are we kidding, can be EVERY day when you’re pregnant!) you can get that oh-so-important prenatal workout in. You may even be surprised to find you have MORE energy after class!!
  • Put your baby first: Some more active ladies may be used to showing up for a new workout ready to bring it “balls the wall” … But don’t forget, you’re in a whole new ball game now and your major goal is for you and your baby to be healthy. If any part of the workout is too intense or causes pain (that beyond the good, fat melting, muscle building kinda pain) STOP! Ask the instruction how you can modify and keep on truckin’ pain free.
