I’m sure you’ve heard of “milkin’ cookies” aka lactation cookies, right? These are cookies made with oats and brwer’s yeast to naturally increase milk supply for breastfeeding mothers. Here’s a recipe for Oatmeal Chocolate Chip “Milkin'” Cookies

Lactation Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2 c. Flour
  • 3 c. oats
  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1tsp vanilla
  • 4 tbsp. water
  • 2 tbsp. flax seed meal
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 -4 tbsp. brewer’s yeast
  • 1 cup of your choice of the following: chocolate chips, M&Ms, macadamia nuts, dried cranberries, OR whatever else fits your fancy!

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Mix the flaxseed meal with the water and set it aside for 3-5 minutes
Beat the butter and the sigars together well.
Add the eggs and mix well.
Add the flaxseed/water mix and the vanilla and continue beating.
In a separate bowl sift together the dry ingredients (flour, brewers yeast, baking soda, and salt)
Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix together.
Stir in oats and chips (or additional item of choice)
Grease a baking sheet or spray with coconut oil. Scoop the mixture onto baking sheet.
Bake for 12 minutes.

Lactation cookies are usually a bit dry compared to regular cookies due to the brewers yeast, but eat them with a glass of milk (or even a lager beer) and they’re bound to get the milk a flowin’ !
