WhatDadReallyWantsForFather'sDay

I decided to do some deep detective work to figure out what dads would really love for Father’s Day. What I found was, well, not surprising at all, but not necessarily what I would think of as a great gift.

Here are my top ten gifts for Dad. {And a lot of them won’t cost a dime!}

  1. Time to himself. I think that all moms can relate to this one. Time to yourself is pretty much unheard of, especially with young kiddos running around. Just like moms want that peace and quiet, dads do too. So if the day allows for it, maybe consider giving Dad a couple hours of peaceful, serene alone time.
  2. Time with the boys. This could mean a morning of guilt-free golf, an afternoon of fishing, catching a baseball game or an evening happy hour with his buddies. Some form of fun with his buddies that spares him of typical daddy duties for a few hours.
  3. Family fun without the normal family stresses. Dads love a fun-filled day with the family. Especially when they don’t have to worry about all the details. And if things get stressful, they want Mom to handle that. All Dad wants to do is show up and have fun.
  4. Alone time with his main squeeze. More specifically, SEXY alone time with his main squeeze. This was an overwhelming response from so many dads. It’s pretty self explanatory. Almost every dad I asked had this item {as THE number 1 thing he REALLY wanted} on his list. Another tip for this, include lingerie. A lot of men listed this item, and included lingerie as part of the sexy time request. Who knew? I didn’t…
  5. A little family getaway. Getting away to a fun place, forgetting about day-to-day life stuff and escaping somewhere different for a weekend is fun for everyone. If time and budget allows, this would be a great gift for Dad.
  6. That thing. You know, that watch or those boots. That something Dad has been going on about wanting/needing for the last few months. Or maybe that something he doesn’t know he wants, but you know he needs and will love.
  7. Quality time with his kids. A lot of dads with grown up kiddos just want a day to spend hanging out with the people they worked so hard to raise. If you can’t be with your Dad, then call him! Let him know you love him and think about him.
  8. Sleep!! If you ask a new dad what he wants for Father’s Day, odds are this will be near the top of his list. Just like Mom, Dad has been waking up at all hours to help out, so a nice morning of sleeping in followed by breakfast in bed would be amazing.
  9. No “honey-do list” to be found. You know that list of things, mental or physical, that you have been waiting for Dad to do. Hide it, lose it, get rid of it! Dad wants relaxation and fun on his day of celebration, not responsibility nagging at his back. He’ll get it done…eventually, just not on Father’s Day.
  10. A day filled with his favorite things. Sleeping in, a six-pack of his favorite beer, his favorite home-cooked meal, a marathon of his favorite TV show—all while hanging out with his favorite people. Make this day about celebrating him and what he loves.

Happy {early} Father’s Day to all you Dad’s anxiously awaiting your special day! And good luck to all the babies and ladies out there looking for the perfect gift to give him.
