It’s Fall Y’all!

Now that the weather has cooled down, load up the family and explore the city. Here are 100 things to see & do in Austin this season:

  1. Make a fall family bucket list :: Depending on age, each child can list 3 things they want to see or do. It gives them something to look forward to and gets their creativity flowing.
  2. Friday Night Lights :: Attend a local high school game.
  3. Indulge in a Pumpkin Spiced Latte :: You won’t regret it.
  4. Austin City Limits Music Festival still has one weekend coming up! Oct 9-11.
  5. Graffiti Park :: Just off North Lamar and Baylor street, the three story abandoned construction site is an ever changing canvas of graffiti artists. Snap some pics of the kiddos.
  6. Schedule a family photo session :: You can find a full list of photographers here.
  7. Segway Tour around downtown Austin.

  8. Austin Nature and Science Center :: Dig through the dino pit, visit the amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
  9. Oktoberfest :: At North by Northwest is an Austin tradition that is 13 years old. Celebrate Oktoberfest with special German brews, classic German food, German music and plenty of fun for the whole family. Admission is only $2.
  10. JUMPoline Park :: Two locations for the kids to jump out that extra Spring Break energy.
  11. Peter Pan Mini Golf :: At the intersection of Barton Springs and North Lamar, this miniature golf course is an Austin icon and never disappoints. There are 2-18 hole courses filled with giant obstacles including the obvious character Peter Pan, a T-Rex, and many more surprises.

  13. Are you a thrill seeker? Then visit one of the haunted houses around town.
  14. Big Top Candy Shop :: What kid, or grown-up, doesn’t deserve a sweet treat? BTCS located on South Congress with over 300 different types of bulk candy and 2,000 different types of packaged candy to choose from and if that isn’t enough to satisfy a sweet tooth…they house an old fashioned soda fountain, ice cream, and shaved ice.

  16. Congress Avenue Kayak ::  Kayaks and stand up paddle boards can be rented from the boathouse next to the Congress Bridge. It’s still the perfect weather to squeeze this activity in!
  17. Mt. Playmore :: Arcades, playscape, food & more!
  18. Hill Country Golf and Guitars :: Bee Cave joint with mini golf, good food, drinks, and live music.
  19. Zilker Park :: Take a ride on the Zephyr train, grab a snack, and enjoy the playground.
  20. South Congress Bats :: The kids will be in serious amazement to witness the bats at sunset on South Congress.
  21. iPlay Austin :: giant inflatables, snacks, drinks, and a toddler area. Hours will fly by at this fun zone.
  22. The Thinkery :: Lots of hands on learning and fun at the same time. Don’t forget to play with the life size lite bright, nostalgia at its best.
  23. Bob Bullock Museum :: Lots of cool things to see at Bob Bullock. This is always a win.
  24. Central Market on North Lamar :: Eat dinner and let the kids play on the playground. It’s a win-win for everyone.
  25. Freddie’s Place :: A south Austin backyard hangout; live music, drinks, dinner, and washers.

  27. Austin Steam Train :: Go on a 6 hour adventure with a 2 hour stop in Bertram for lunch. The kids will LOVE this and it’s an all-day experience!
  28. Revival :: Visit Hamlet the Pot Belly Pig, see the chickens, play on the vintage outdoor area, or swing in a huge tree swing. Parents, grab a glass of wine and shop a little all while the kids play.
  29. Feed the Ducks at the Arboretum Duck Pond:: And sit on the (statue) cows while you’re there.
  30. Fishing in Brushy Creek Lake Park or Camp Mabry.
  31. Free Petting Zoo Story Time at BookPeople:: Third Wednesday of every month.
  32. See the peacocks at Mayfield Park.
  33. Have a mommy and me play date at Rose and Grace Mini Farm:: play with bunnies and feed chickens and ducks.
  34. Go Camping.
  35. Hat Creek Burger :: This is not JUST any eatery. With an awesome outdoor play area for the kids, beer & wine on the menu, and awesome burgers, you just can’t go wrong for a couple of hours at any of the Hat Creek locations.
  36. IKEA :: If you’re thinking about sprucing up the house a little bit, take the kids to IKEA and let them play in the play area while you shop. Trust us, they’ll think it’s awesome.
  37. Texas Capitol :: What a beautiful spot to go. The kids will love running around on the lawn, stomping around on the big state star, and will be in awe and amazement of all the statues to see.
  38. Austin Aquarium:: Has a big range of aquatic life in a little space that’s not overwhelming for young ones.
  39. Explore the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center’s Family Garden:: Make your way through the Metamorphosis Maze.
  40. Dinosaur Park in Burnet :: Explore a dinosaur trail and dino dig.
  41. The Original Salt Lick :: It’s a gorgeous drive and a true destination without being super far away. Everyone will love the food and it’s got a great outdoor area for the kids to run around.
  42. University of Texas Campus:: Take a stroll down the drag, take the kids to see the football stadium, and have your picture taken in front of the UT Tower.
  43. Visit a Famers Market :: The ones downtown and in Sunset Valley have Imagination Playgrounds.
  44. See Staci Gray or Mr. Will on a Sunday at Cherrywood Coffee House.
  45. Go to a University of Texas Football Game :: Attend the game or tailgate and enjoy a tasty beverage.
  46. Visit Sweet Berry Farms Pumpkin Patch. A personal favorite!

  47. Kiddie Acres:: Amusement park designed for kids 10 and under. Go on a ferris wheel, ride the carousel or ponnies, or play miniature golf.
  48. Roy G. Guerrero Park:: Interactive park that has structures great for all ages.
  49. Go on a family hike:: Some ideas include Bull Creek, Shoal Creek or Barton Creek Greenbelt. Then, enjoy a family picnic afterwards.
  50. Walk Lady Bird Lake :: It will always be Town Lake to me, but I need to check out the new Boardwalk.
  51. Go fly a kite on Murchison Hill or Zilker Park.
  52. Children’s Day Art Park :: Also presented by the Austin Symphony, but if you’re looking for something earlier in the day — for just 50 cents for each child, you can head Wednesday mornings to Symphony Square Amphitheatre. There children can play with a petting zoo, listen to local musicians, watch dancers, and hear storytellers.
  53. Wine Walk at the Hill Country Galleria :: more fun for the parents (obviously), but gather your best girlfriends for this kid-friendly trek through the Hill Country Galleria shopping and sipping. It’s the 2nd Thursday of every month from 5-9pm. The kids can play in the fountain while you’re there too.
  54. Visit a family-friendly brewery, such as Austin Beer Works or Jester King.
  55. Visit the Food Trucks.
  56. Invite friends over for a “Front Yard Friday” :: host a potluck or BBQ and get to know the neighbors.
  57. Movie at Ski Shores :: Family Movie Night at Dusk, plus free S’mores for the kids.
  58. DIY Halloween Costumes
  59. At the Moviehouse & Eatery, there are Mommy (and daddy) Mondays :: $6 tickets before 2 pm and quieter show where babies and toddlers are welcome.
  60. Try Movies with Babies on a Tuesday at Alamo Drafthouse :: Wanting to go see a movie during the day but don’t want to pay for a sitter? Thanks to Alamo, you can! At the Alamo Village, Alamo South Lamar, Alamo Lakeline and Alamo Slaughter, you can go to regular shows that start before 2:00pm on Tuesdays with your little one in tow.
  61. Go to the Thinkery :: while you’re there check out the Early Learners classes.
  62. Learn Sign Language:: There is a signing time class at the Natural Baby Company on Wednesdays for $5.
  63. Mr. Rudy’ StoryTime  at Cups n’ Cones on Thursdays at 10:30am.
  64. Theme Week For example a “Dr. Seuss Week” could include Mondays as “Cat in the Hat” and Tuesday “Green Eggs and Ham.” You read the book and do an activity based on the book.
  65. Make Kinetic sand  :: less mess and the creativity is endless.
  66. Free Story Time at PotteryBarn Kids, Whole Foods, or your local library.
  67. Date night? Leave the kiddos at home and enjoy a Halloweekend Pub Crawl.
  68. Mount Bonnell :: Grab your family, some snacks, and some drinks. Make the stair climb to the top of Mount Bonnell to watch the sunset for a free, peaceful evening.
  69. Check out the seasonal Pumpkin Patches .
  70. Attend a Trunk or Treat at your local church or neighborhood activity center.
  71. Need a little girl time? Try a scarf exchange at your local coffee shop! Sip on a Pumpkin Spiced Latte and catch up with your girlfriends and go home with a new accessory for fall.
  72. Neighborhood Pumpkin Carving Party :: Everyone brings their own pumpkin, dish, and beverage of choice. A great time for the kiddos and adults.
  73. Austin is ranked one of the top 10 dog- friendly cities. Get your fur baby and go explore many of the dog friendly parks, restaurants, and stores.
  74. Paint pumpkins:: Grab a few inexpensive pumpkins and let everyone decorate a pumpkin for the front porch.pumpkins

  76. Barre3 :: Try a Barre3 class the first Saturday of every month with the AMB crew.
