Meet Kendra Young

For the last 10 years, I’ve had about 10 different jobs (including, but not limited to, SAT tutor, freelance writer, editorial assistant, marketing director, newspaper editor, high school teacher, children’s music teacher, graphic designer, and stay-at-home mom). I’m not being sappy when I say my current SAHM gig is my favorite, but I do miss my work lunches and school conference periods… My kids don’t believe in any sort of quiet time, but somehow we make it through every day in one piece.

I have a 5-year-old daughter, Norah, and an almost-two-year-old son, Asher, and I’ve evolved considerably since adding my second… mostly because my bandwidth for “Things I Can Reasonably Care About” has just about been maxed out. That means I grocery shop without cart covers, consider bean-and-cheese tacos a perfectly acceptable dinner option, and generally don’t stress about minor parenting hiccups.

My husband, Jacob, and I met in 6th grade and have dated ever since (although I’m pretty sure our early days of “dating” were just sitting together in the middle school cafeteria). We grew up in a very small town south of Dallas, moved to College Station for college, and have spent the last 10 years bouncing back and forth between small-town country life and Central Austin city living. Which habitat I prefer varies daily.

Most days I can be found hanging out at the park with a life-giving coffee in hand. I’m an INFP and tend to daydream about my next creative venture when I should be tackling the ever-mounting pile of laundry that faces me each and every day. (WHY DO WE WEAR SO MANY CLOTHES?? I’m pretty sure I’m doing laundry for a small village, not just four humans with limited wardrobes.)

Sometimes I channel the part of my brain not used for reading board books in funny voices to contribute to half the team of graphic design firm typejarstudio.com

I truly love connecting with other moms, and I look forward to sharing the fun/crazy/maddening/rewarding journey of motherhood through the Austin Moms Blog.
