Where To Buy A Unique Baby Gift In Austin
At this stage in my life, it seems like I’m always searching for a baby gift for at least one expectant mama friend. I usually get one or more items from the registry, but I also like including another, more thoughtful gift to add a personal touch. And while I generally prefer to sit on my couch and order everything under the sun from Amazon, it’s a treat to venture out and browse cute boutiques, hoping to stumble upon that perfect present.
Here are 12 of the best shops in Austin where you can find a unique baby gift and support local businesses and crafters:
515 S. Congress Avenue (South)
Enlightened Baby has an incredible selection of natural, environmentally conscious baby products—toys, clothing, feeding and diapering products, cribs, strollers, and more. They have tons of products that make great gifts, too, including quilts and burp clothes from Little Unicorn, adorable dolls from Apple Park and Kathe Kruse, decor, and books. Even if you’re just shopping for a gift, you’re bound to find something for your own baby here, too.
3010 W. Anderson Lane (Allandale)
In business for 34 years, Bright Beginnings has a huge selection of modern children’s clothing and shoes from top brands. The store is also full of teeny accessories, books, toys, teethers, stuffed animals, and Austin-themed gifts. They have a cool train table for kids to play at while you shop around!
2805 Bee Caves Road (Rollingwood)
This lifestyle boutique sells kids’ apparel including KicKee Pants clothing, Freshly Picked moccasins and oh-so-cozy kids’ robes from Barefoot Dreams. They also have blankets from Barefoot Dreams and Aden + Anais, plus cute plushes, books, and toys from Cloud B that help babies sleep.
3300 Bee Caves Road (Rollingwood)
This small gift shop has a kids’ section that’s packed with baby gifts, including fun onesies and silicone bibs with sayings like “Spit Happens.” They also have clothes from Elegant Baby (even the sweetest little “My First Pair of Jeans” that comes in a keepsake box), wooden pull toys, baby feeding sets and more.
3663 Bee Caves Road (Westlake Hills)
This charming, intimate shop has tons of original items from local artists and crafters, including adorable clothing from Austin-based Lucy and Lester. They also have beautiful prints from Kim Kaiser Art, like this whimsical Lone Star Alphabet print, bibs and teething jewelry from Bella Tunno, RuffleButts bloomers, Kindred and Kid headbands, books and much more.
1003 W. 34th Street (Bryker Woods)
Picket Fences has been outfitting Austin moms and babies with the best gear for almost 20 years. You’ll find unique nursery decor, clothing from brands like Magnolia Baby, shoes, blankets, fun onesies, bibs, Longhorn gear, as well as clothing and products for mamas.
1704 S. Congress Avenue (South)
This is my favorite place to find Austin-themed onesies. I especially love the handmade felt designs. They feature other local crafters too – whimsical stuffed animals from Nushkins, and animal hooks from Jungle Hooks.
1204 S. Congress Avenue (South)
This Dallas-based boutique has a well-curated selection of apparel, toys, and books for little ones. My favorite items were the baby cowboy boots, “suckulent” teether toy, and the Baby’s First Tattoo alternative memory book. If you’re looking for a quirky but cute baby gift, this shop is for you.
3201 Bee Caves Road (Westlake Hills)
Olivia Shoppe has a huge collection of upscale, classic baby clothing (brands like Little English, Velveteen, Sapling Organic and Fore! Axel & Hudson) that can be monogrammed for a special touch. They also have gorgeous handcrafted dolls and stuffed animals from Alimrose and Maileg.
10000 Research Blvd. (Arboretum)
This Atlanta-based chain of home decor shops opened its first Texas outpost at the Arboretum in October 2017. They have whimsical and inspirational art prints and poetry sticks that would be perfect in a nursery. Their super-soft heirloom baby blankets with lyrics and quotes on them make a lovely gift as well. You’ll also find cheeky onesies and other clothing, stuffed animals, faux animal mounts, picture frames and more.
4209 Airport Blvd. (Mueller)
Lemon Drop is a mobile shop housed in a silver airstream covered in yellow stripes, making it the “happiest and brightest children’s store that you’ve ever seen,” according to the owner. They carry beautiful multi-use nursing covers, colorful playmats, tie-dyed swaddles, floor loungers, and hip clothing including rompers, bubbles and jumpsuits.
908 W. 12th Street #C (Downtown)
Their brick-and-mortar shop just opened downtown, and their online store also has a wide selection of treasures with an emphasis on upscale, modern clothing for kids. They also have lovely blankets, wall hangings, mobiles, and accessories.
