Best Sunscreen For Little Kids

Although summer vacation is coming to a close, the high heat & bright sun are still out in full force. The school nurse even sent out a reminder to send the students in each morning with sunscreen already applied. In Texas, we pretty much could wear sunscreen all year, right? But it’s a little confusing to know which brands are best for little kids. Apparently the oh-so-easy to apply spray kind gets inhaled & is bad for their lungs?! And my baby boy wasn’t supposed to have any on his pale soft skin until he was at least 6 months of age? –Well oops, I already broke that rule a couple times this summer! What’s the right SPF number? What are the safest ingredients?

I’m no expert, but I’ve done my research. Here are my three favorite sunscreens for little kids:

Glamour Camper SPF 50+:  Natural sunscreen + bug repellant combo with…wait for it…GLITTER! This magic in a bottle is an SPF 50+, provides a 40-minute water resistant Broad Spectrum & zinc-based sunscreen by the brand Sunshine & Glitter. Kids can glitter-up and parents can see exactly where they missed. Amazingly, kids re-apply on their own just to get more glitter. The natural sun-kissed woods scent is provided by cedar, citronella, lemongrass and peppermint oil which serve as a natural bug repellant, too. If you’re anti-glitter, Scout is sans-shimmer but is the same anti-bug sunscreen formulation and fresh woodsy scent.

Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+:  This brand is the best of the best, in my opinion! Rated a “1” by EWG, free of biologically harmful chemicals (carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, etc.), and has received more awards than any other sun care line. Plus, the company is headquartered right here in Austin, TX! They are all about safe products for our bodies and for the environment. Years ago, I first found this line only at Whole Foods Market, but it seems they’ve gotten more popular — now it’s a simple click away on Amazon.

Anthelios Dermo-Kids SPF 60 Sunscreen:  Made by French heritage skincare company La Roche-Posay, this pick is an alternative for kids who are be sensitive to ingredients typically found in most sunscreens. For instance, if a particular skin condition or allergy inhibits their use of most lotions, this is definitely an option to check out. Developed by dermatologists and pediatrician-tested, this product is fragrance, oil, and paraben-free.

Now you can feel safe applying these types of sunscreen to your littles, as we wait patiently for “fall” to arrive.
