Best Snacks For Extracurricular Activities

Who else goes through snacks like they’re going outta style? So. many. snacks. If my 3-year-old had it her way, she’d survive on snacks alone. I don’t indulge too much snacking in between mealtimes, but there are certain times ya just can’t get around it. After school, during flights, and during and pre & post-extracurricular activities are primetime snacking zones! We try to keep their food choices as healthy as possible, too. Here are my favorite go-to pre-packaged snacks!

Best Bar:

Rowdy Bar. Energy bars are the best when it comes to grab-n-go convenience, am I right? This one is leading the charge into the newly emerging prebiotic marketplace with the first all-natural bar featuring the gut-health superfood Yacon Root. They just released a new Sunflower Butter N’ Berries flavor, but our family fave is the Peanutty Dark Chocolate. Each Rowdy Bar is crafted with 10 or fewer whole food ingredients and no artificial flavors, and is paleo-friendly, non-GMO, and gluten-, soy-, and dairy-free.

Best Beverage:

Waterloo Sparkling Water. We’ve been big fans of all the naturally flavored soda waters for a minute now. They are the perfect alternative to sugary sodas! However, we especially love Waterloo because they’re based in Austin and feel pride in supporting local ATX brands. You can find them at Whole Foods Market, Randalls and H.E.B. We’ve tried all their flavors but the absolute best one is the Watermelon…Black Cherry is a close second.

Best Crunch:

Sticky Rice Chips by Dang Foods. These come in flavors from savory to sweet to spicy and our group loves ’em all. Made with crunchy Thai rice grains, these ‘chips’ offer a satisfying crunch without the guilt. Not sure I really even understand how they’re made –it’s a combo of watermelon juice & coconut milk that binds them into chips…it’s all a secret family recipe– but they are “dang” good! They come in five flavors but actually the original version is my personal fave.

Best Protein “Bar”:

Munk Pack’s Protein Cookies. With 18G of plant-based protein and 6G of fiber per cookie, these are perfect for keeping everyone fueled while on-the-go. Even better, these cookies are vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO and available in four yummy flavors, including: Coconut White Chip Macadamia, Double Dark Chocolate, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, and Oatmeal Raisin Spice. I’ll share one with my toddler and she thinks she really getting a treat! Find them at your local Whole Foods.

Best Sweet:

The Marshinator. Although it’s a rare occasion for us to indulge in desserts, when we do decide to go for it we like it to be something special. Kids love Rice Krispie treats but this mama’s not making up a whole tray, ya know? Then I found The Marshinator: all handmade and high quality, these marshmallow rice cereal snacks are available in ten unique flavors. Some of the choices excite adults (Vanilla Almond, Cappuccino, & Matcha) while others appeal to the kids (Cookies & Cream, S’mores, & Fruit Blast) but since they are individually packaged, there’s something that’ll appeal to everyone.

We’d love to hear your favorite snacks in the comments!
