In honor of National Margarita Day, February 22, we’ve put together a comprehensive list of some of the best margaritas to be found in and around Austin.  With a huge list offering everything from the tasteful classic for the margarita purist to crazy flavors and combinations, you are sure to find the perfect spot to enjoy your rita this weekend! 

 Enchiladas y Mas                                  

Enchiladas y Mas is known for their award winning enchiladas, but be sure to also try their super strong margaritas.  They offer lunch time specials of 8 oz. frozen margaritas for only $3.75 from Tuesday-Friday, 11 am- 2 pm. Their happy hour specials are from Tuesday-Friday 4-6 pm, 50¢ off beer and wine, $1 off all liquor, and nachos only $4.75 with purchase of alcoholic drinks.

Azul Tequila offers two locations for your convenience, a beautifully curated menu, live music on Friday and Saturday nights, and of course, strong and delicious margaritas!

Fonda San Miguel                                                                                                                                          

The margaritas at Fonda San Miguel are works of art, beautifully served and made with quality ingredients.  Try the Silver Coin Margarita or the Numero Uno Margarita made with agave nectar. Happy Hour is on Tuesdays from 5 pm- close, on the bar or patio only, with $5.95 margaritas and half price appetizers.

Workhorse Bar has a great laid back vibe, great prices, and a solid margarita featuring Paula’s Texas Orange and fresh squeezed lime and agave nectar, and even welcomes dogs on the patio.  They offer happy hour ALL DAY, and be sure to try the fried pickles!

Trudy’s has the honor of being awarded “Best Margarita in Texas” for two years, and offers a wide variety of drinks and drink specials.  Try the margarita flight if you can’t pick just one! Margarita specials are happy hour from Monday-Friday, 2-7pm, $4 house margaritas; Monday- famous house margaritas $4, Tuesday- margaritas $5.50, Friday- sangria margaritas $4.50, Saturday- strawberry margaritas $4.50, and Brunch- Ruby Red margaritas $2.50 till noon and $4.50 till 4 pm.

Hoover’s Cooking                                                                                                                                         

Hoover’s is a comfort food staple that’s been in Austin for twenty years.  They have a happy hour from Wednesday-Friday, 3-7 pm, with drink specials and tasty treats.  Try their giant frozen margaritas for $6.50 during happy hour- there’s even a beet version!

Maudie’s Cafe                                                                                                                                          

Maudie’s Cafe has a ton of delicious margaritas to try, including blackberry mint, cucumber basil, and a jalapeno skinny margarita!  They also have fun options like frozen swirl margaritas, and frozen floater margaritas. Happy hour is Monday 3 pm- close, Tuesday- Friday 3pm- 6:30 pm.

Texas Chili Parlor                                                                                                                                          

Famed for their chili, barbecue, and frito pie, Texas Chili Parlor also laid claim to a Guy Clark song- their Mad Dog Margaritas are famous!

The Roosevelt Room                                                                                                                                       

The Roosevelt Room is an award winning cocktail bar and event venue in downtown Austin.  Their drink menu is quite simply a work of art. For a purist’s margarita, look no further- theirs is made with Arette Blanco Tequila, RR Triple Sec, lime, and maguey sap.  Happy hour runs all night on Mondays and Tuesdays, and from 4 pm-7 pm Wednesday- Saturday, and from 3pm-7 pm on Sundays.

La Condesa                                                                                                                                                          

La Condesa’s happy hour is on Monday-Friday from 5pm- 7[m, with half off alcoholic beverages and discounted snacks.  Try their Margarita La Clasica, mixed with fresh pineapple juice and a cactus-lemongrass salt rim. Don’t miss the street corn, piled high with cotija cheese.

Licha’s Cantina                                                                                                                                                

Licha’s is famous for their Mexican soul food and great atmosphere.  Enjoy their classic and simple margarita for only $5 during happy hour (Tuesday- Friday, 4-6 pm).

El Alma Cafe y Cantina                                                                                                                                

El Alma’s has an amazing rooftop patio and an impressive 11 different choices of margaritas, including an avacadorita and a pinarita. Happy hour is every day from 3-6 pm, with discounted appetizers and drinks.

El Naranjo’s traditional margaritas are available with your choice of tequila or mezcal, customizable to your taste. Try the Durazno, made with white peach puree, and don’t leave without tasting their tres leches!

Guero’s Taco Bar                                                                                                                                      

Guero’s prides themselves on margaritas that are “No frills- authentically strong!” and they mean it.  They offer 19 margaritas to choose from. Try the Longhorn, the 512 Rita, or Guero’s Gold! Happy hour is Monday-Friday, from 3-6 pm, with $2 off signature margaritas and $4 off frozen & casa margaritas.

Polvo’s is known for cold and strong margaritas, and has an extensive drink menu complete with pitchers of ritas.  Be sure to try them during happy hour, with $4.50 margaritas Monday-Friday.

Matt’s Famous El Rancho                                                                                                                    

Matt’s Famous El Rancho is a classic Tex-Mex Austin staple, with a family friendly atmosphere and a great patio. Check out the Bob Armstrong, their legendary queso and chips.  Matt’s offers various color and flavor combinations, as well as the classic margarita.

Jack Allen’s happy hour is Monday- Friday, from 3-7 pm, with half off appetizers and drink specials.  Their Texan comfort food pairs well with a diverse menu of ten margaritas.

Curra’s frozen avocado margarita is well known in Austin.  It is a must try for every margarita enthusiast. Curra’s also offers an amazing salsa sampler and perfect tamales.

Hecho en Mexico offers a house margarita, an organic version, and several flavored options. Happy hour is 3-6 pm daily, for dine-in only.

Lupe Tortilla                                                                                                                                       

Lupe Tortilla’s offers top shelf margaritas with fresh squeezed lime. They also have a full menu of margarita flavors, including Prickly Pear and the Mojita Rita.  Happy hour is from 3- 6:30 pm.

Manuel’s boasts five types of margaritas, including an assortment of flavors including guava and pomegranate. Happy hour is from 4-6 pm daily, with half-off appetizers and $2 off margaritas.

Chuy’s specializes in Tex-Mex and margartias, and has plenty to choose from! They have ritas on the rocks, frozen, swirled, and dot.  Try Grand Ma’s Rockin Rita in a pint glass if you’re feeling adventurous! Happy hour is Monday-Friday, 4-7 pm.

Happy hour is Monday-Friday, from 3- 6 pm, with $2 off margaritas.  At the South First location, happy hour prices are honored all day to patrons seated at the bar! Order the cucumber cilantro margarita, and enjoy their expansive patio.

Tillery Kitchen and Bar is a Mediterranean influenced restaurant located on the Colorado River. Happy hour is 3-7 pm daily. Tillery has a unique outdoor lounge vibe and an impressive menu as well.

Happy hour is Monday-Friday 4-7 pm.  Nasha also boasts a reverse happy hour, Monday-Wednesday from 10pm-11:30 pm. Try the curried margarita and enjoy their phenomenal Indian-Mexican fusion dishes!

The Little Darlin’ is a chill mix of bar, outside patio, and music venue.  Try the Mango Fandango, a blend of mango with margarita fixins’.

Still Austin Whiskey Co.                                                                                                                         

Still Austin Whiskey Co. is a distillery with tours, a tasting room, and happy hour every Thursday and Friday from 3-7 pm, with $2 off whiskey cocktails.  You can order a classic margarita that blends New Make and Daydreamer whiskey with a housemade sour mix, or get the frozen Blackberry Jalapeno margarita. These nontraditional margaritas are made without tequila, but are still worth trying out!

Iron Cactus boasts some of the best Tex-Mex in Austin and a rooftop dining area.  Happy hour is Monday-Friday from 3-6 pm, with $3 off tequila drinks. Try the Clarita or the Frose, or any of their other amazing margarita options!

Z’Tejas Mexican Restaurant and Grill                                                                                      

Z’Tejas offers seven different margaritas- try the Hard Day or the Jalapeno Cucumber. Happy hour is Monday-Friday 3- 7 pm, and Saturday-Sunday 3-5 pm.  Be sure to try the guacamole tostada bites with your margarita!

Jardin Corona tops many people’s lists of best margaritas in Austin. Happy hour is from 3-6 pm, Monday- Thursday. Their beautiful and colorful margarita menu comes in 12 ounce, grande, liters, and pitchers to share.

The Oasis on Lake Travis is a must visit for the view, the atmosphere, and the margaritas can’t be beat! Try the Perfect Meltdown Margarita or the Beer Margarita.

Gloria’s Latin Cuisine                                                                                                                     

Gloria’s offers Salvadorian style fine cuisine, and is another top choice for margaritas in Austin. They have happy hour from 11 am – 10 pm Monday-Wednesday, and 11 am-7 pm Thursday-Friday.  They have one of the best margarita menus around, including multiple skinny options and fresh exciting flavors.

Santa Rita has great salsa, great service, and their frozen Sangria Margarita with a swirl is amazing! Happy hour is every day from 3- 6:30 pm, with $4 frozen ritas and discounted appetizers.

Dos Salsas                                                                                                                                     

Dos Salsas has a solid menu and some fun margaritas.  They offer a Jumbo Rita- 18 ounces of deliciousness! Happy hour is Monday and Tuesday ALL day, Wednesday-Friday 3-7pm.
