Father’s Day is Sunday, June 16th!  Mark it on your calendars mamas!  It is fast approaching and as usual I am scrambling to figure out what to get the father of my children.  How do I give the gift that says everything in a simple token of appreciation?  A gift to say thank you for his assistance in making my two children and a gift that gives a great pat on the back to the man who is the head of our family, provider, comedian, and floor wrestler.  This year I want to celebrate the positives by finding something unique and useful for the man of our house.

There are so many ideas out in our social online world that we all live in these days however I trust that I found some great local gift finds, out of the ordinary gift finds as well as some great monthly subscription finds.  I trust this list will help you figure out what to get the men of our lives to let them know we are grateful for all they do.

Local Gifts from Around Austin

Sometimes a wine bottle is just so pretty you do not want to throw it way…And sometimes you come across that masterpiece your child brought home from art class that just needs to be displayed…well, why not put it on a wine bottle!  Personal Wine is a local company who can personalize a wine bottle with initials or family names.  One great idea for a Father’s Day is to send them one of your children’s artworks or maybe a compilation of many and they can place it on a wine bottle…yep.  So cool.  Or if you prefer to have a picture of your beautiful offspring, then they can do that as well.  If the father in your life is more of a beer lover then order him an engraved glass beer mug that says Best Dad Ever!  Or name engraved leather coasters…I could keep going with this great local company.

Does the man in your life enjoy grilling or cooking?  Is he a meat and potatoes guy?  We have a great local resource for fantastic meat in our big little town.  Longhorn Meat Market on E. Martin Luther King Blvd is a 5th generation family owned butcher shop that has been serving Austin since 1930.  They have reasonably priced packaged meat sets to purchase for your grilling man to cook up on Father’s Day or any warm summer afternoon by the pool.

All fathers deserve a little sweat treat every now and then.  Even a decadent one from Paris in a Bite.  This local french bakery will not disappoint.  Stop by and grab some fine chocolate to go with a Summer Moon coffee gift card or that Personal Wine to celebrate his Father’s Day.

Are you a part of the new crazy sock rage?  If not, then you are missing out.  One of my all time favorite local gift shops, A-Town on Burnet Rd has a wall of crazy socks.  They have socks for kids, women and men.  These socks are bright colors with random pictures and sayings on them for all types of men…you can even get some with current and past US Presidents.  Uh-huh…just imagine the father of your children sitting in an important work meeting showing off a sock that has pink dinosaurs on it or bananas.

If your man loves some of our local restaurants and always mentions he wants to try to re-create some of the dishes he devours then why not get him a local chef’s cook book.  Give the father of your children a challenge and let him take over dinner a few nights a week.  Eric Silvertein came out with a cookbook called The Peached Tortilla: Modern Asian Comfort Food from Tokyo to Texas.  The Peached Tortilla restaurant is delicious and one for all to try.  Now you can take a little bit of it home with you.  Another great local eatery is Jack Allan’s Kitchen.  Grab a gift card or just order Chef Jack Gilmore’s cookbook, Jack Allen’s Kitchen: Celebrating the Tastes of Texas.  His food is filled with southern hospitality and local ingredients.

If you are like me and enjoy gifting in bunches then you can throw in a few gift cards to give him some time to himself.  Local Bird’s Barbershop offers gift cards!  You could load up the card for him to use throughout the year.  They can do beard trims and help clean up those hair necklines so he can look nice and slick for your next night out!

Original Gifts for that Original Man

Game night just got a little more interesting with this cool Beeropoly game.  Think beer plus Monopoly.  You may want to wait until the kids are in bed to play this one because drinking may be involved OR it may not but this game looks fun.  What a different way to have a little one on one time with the father of your children or with an intimate group.

Is your man bearded? Mustache, goatee or stubble?  Does he sport a hefty full on beard that he has been working on over the years?  Then order him this Love Your Beard Pack.  A well kept beard can send you straight in to the cool zone – their words, not mine.

Do you hear me now?  Well, this next gift really wouldn’t help with cell phone service, however, it states it can help with keeping that darn battery charged.  Ugh, those cell phone batteries get the best of us sometimes.  Order your techie father’s children a Portable Solar Charger.  Then he has no excuse to go on that long greenbelt hike with you and the kids or hang out longer on the lake deck.  Heck, take that camp trip you keep talking about.

Subscription Boxes

Okay, so beer and wine may not be the father in your life’s favorite things, they are more of a “what’s the newest curated drink?” kind of a man then Crafted Taste is a great monthly subscription for a Father’s Day gift.  Can you imagine him coming home to a box on the front porch that was for him and not you or the kids?  They send out a box with the monthly cocktail all packaged up and ready to be mixed upon arrival.  You can get a subscription with or without the alcohol sent in the box.  You two could have a fun date night in with this kind of box then he could be the next bartender at the neighborhood party.

You cannot go wrong with the monthly Man Crates.  They have so many different kinds of crates that you are bound to find something for Father’s Day that will put a smile on his face.  From pizza grilling kits to growler kids to lure making kits to jerky crates.  I think they have thought of it all…all the unique men in our lives.

I truly trust this list will help you out while deciding on what to get your man on Father’s Day!  Or at least get you thinking of what to get!
