When I think about the perfect morning in fall the first thing that comes to mind is a muffin.  Baked goods give me comfort this time of year.

Am I alone here?

Delicious Muffins can be disguised as a cake for breakfast.  And I love any type of cake!  The twins’ first tried a muffin before ever trying cake when they were still in highchairs.  Now that I think about it I’m pretty sure the nursery rhyme Do you know the muffin man was the second song I ever sang to the girls.  Itsy Bitsy Spider was the first song in case you were curious.

We especially love a sweet yet tart blueberry muffin.  However, I found some new flavors during my research a few weeks ago that gives fan-favorite blueberry a run for the money.  Fall flavors such as Pumpkin, Cinnamon Swirl, and Cranberry Walnut.  It’s no surprise Austin is accommodating to all dietary needs with gluten-free and vegan options.

The best muffin should be crisp on top with a moist cake-like interior.  And any fruit or nut add-ins should be found in each bite.  I also discovered that a bigger muffin is not always better because the longer bake time can dry out the muffin.  A streusel topping or course sugar is a nice addition but I prefer a good ol’ fashioned lightly golden cake muffin top.

Russell’s Bakery has pumpkin muffins year-round.  Other types are Almond poppy seed, banana chocolate chip, blueberry, and gluten-free options.

Upper Crust Bakery offers Blueberry, bran (has raisins) and a light and fluffy oatmeal muffin

San Francisco Bakery bakes Glorious morning (with carrots and raisins) Cinnamon Swirl, Blueberry, and Cranberry Walnut.

Quack’s  Blueberry, Blueberry bran, Cranberry, Vegan Double Chocolate, Peach Cobble, Marvelous Morning

Texas French Bread Blueberry, Bran, Poppyseed, and Banana bread

Mozart’s Blueberry, Bran, Morning Glory, Peach Cobbler, Vegan Chocolate, Banana Nut

You can find a perfect muffin all over Austin, but one of the best muffins that can be found is baking in your kitchen.  Make memories with muffin crumbs all over the floor, kids giggling over whose muffin has more blueberries, and the fact that the mixing bowls will have to get cleaned later.

Add your favorite muffin and where to find it in the comments section.

  1. Although this is informative, between the morning rush to school, work, after school, dinner, homework…etc., a Bakery stop is not anywhere in reality of everyday life! What about comparing places that are in most Moms everyday routines… HEB, Randals, Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, Central Market, Costco, etc! Compare those muffins and really give moms food for thought!!
