Hello Austin Moms! I am so excited to be on this amazing team of Mamas doing what we’ve been blessed to do!
Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Markeita Brock, but everyone calls me Keita and you are welcome to do the same. I grew up in a little small town in middle Tennessee. I was a cheerleader and on the dance team through grade school. I knew that at a very young age that I didn’t want to be stuck there forever. I dreamed of becoming an obstetrician-gynecologist one day, but God always has the better plan.
I met my now husband Nicholas two years after graduating high school. We became the best of friends, but lost contact with each other over the years. To make a long story short, he came into my life again and we sealed the deal! We now have three amazing kids, Amari, Aiyana and Aiden. They are truly a blessing to our lives and such amazing kids.
It’s so funny how life can change the moment you become a Mom.
What makes my story a little more interesting is that my husband is an Air Force Veteran, so moving around a lot was quite the adventure!
Our very first duty station was in the beautiful sunshine state of Florida. I was so excited to be living in such an amazing and new place, but most of all the beach was only minutes away from our 2 bedroom apartment! Before Florida, I had never lived anywhere else outside of Tennessee. I truly learned a lot about myself as a woman, a new wife and especially a new mom. It was overwhelming, but all rewarding at the same time. We later moved overseas and then came back to the states years later.
I wouldn’t change one thing about any of it. It was truly an honor to be around the military community, as well as other mamas just like me.
The one thing that I’m proud of myself for is going to college to earn my Esthetician license. I fell in love with skincare and makeup and decided to go forth with it. I worked in a spa resort for two years while we lived in Louisiana. I’ve yet to truly find my purpose and passion in this life, but I know that I’ll never stop trying. I’m a firm believer in everything happening for a reason and with God, all things are possible.
I am thankful that we are now calling Texas home since our military travels.
We visited Austin quite a few times and fell in love with it. I am thrilled that my kids love their schools. I’m also grateful that I can volunteer and mentor in their school district that they attend. I can truly say that since being a Mom, I see how important it is for our youth today to be influenced by adults that want to see them thrive and do great things.
I am looking forward to what the future brings for my family and I. As I embark on this new journey of writing, I hope ya’ll enjoy the ride with me!
