Spring cleaning is all about out with the old and in with the new, right?

I’m definitely one to get into a routine, and get real cozy in it. I have a love/hate relationship with change. Because change scares me. But the truth is, most of the time, change is a really good thing. In most cases, change means we’re learning and improving. This was the case when we made the change about our pest control options around our home.

It was out with the old and in with the new. For as long as I can remember growing up, my parents sprayed the baseboards with that well-known gooey liquid to keep the bugs out. Once I had my own home, I didn’t really give it much thought, we just continued with the style our parents had done.

But once kids came on the scene, it started to really, really bother me that chemicals were now dripping from my baseboards and puddling on the floor that my babies were constantly crawling on. As much as I tried to pick up toys off the floor, it was inevitable that before this goo had time to dry, a ball would bounce off the baseboard and roll right through the chemicals meant to kill pests. And guess where babies put EVERYTHING! That’s right, friends! Right in their little mouths. Everything.

Cue the mom worry in my home! So I was determined to find a different way. One option was to cut out pest control sprays completely. Go completely hippie and live amongst nature (aka: BUGS). As you can guess, that was not an option for me. So my search began to find a better way to both keep my family safe from toxins but also keep the bugs away. A win/win, right?

In came Chem-Free Pest & Lawn and their organic pest control options. Who knew organic and pest control could be in the same sentence? I sure didn’t!

Organic is the big buzz word around Austin. It seems that every label we see now says it’s organic. But folks, my house literally smells like lemon and cinnamon after their preventive treatments. And the best part! They don’t even have to come inside to maintain their prevention plan. That’s right. No goo dripping from my baseboards. No puddles of chemicals just waiting for a soccer ball to roll through it. No more worry that we need to evacuate the house until the chemical smell dissipates. Sounds too good to be true, right?

It’s not!

Upon their first visit to my home, they inspected the inside and outside for possible entry points. Any openings they found, were plugged with copper mesh to prevent any intruders. I know, I know, I just said they don’t have to come in. And that is mostly true. During their first visit, they check your entire home. Attic included. To be sure there isn’t a current pest problem hiding within the walls or ducts.

Then it’s onto the prevention. Plugging holes, dusting with their lemon-cinnamon goodness. After that initial walk-through, each maintenance visit after, the technician remains outside your home. Checking and applying organic treatments to the exterior of your home and yard.

My family has been beyond pleased and now feel comfortable with our prevention plan, knowing we’re doing our best to keep toxins at a minimum around our home. We do this for our food. Austinites are all about organic when it comes to what we put in our bodies. Now it’s time to focus on the chemicals we put in and around our home as well.

So as you start your spring cleaning, your old way of pest control needs to be one that’s out with the old and in with the new. Contact Chem-Free to start your Eco-friendly, family-friendly, and pet-friendly maintenance plan that is tailored specifically to your family’s needs.
