Do you have a young singer at home? They are in luck as the esteemed National Children’s Chorus has officially launched it’s online programming to our Austin youth!
The National Children’s Chorus Academy provides children ages 5-17 the opportunity to learn and grow in an extraordinary online musical environment. Your children can take part in incredible virtual courses, led by the country’s leading music educators, who work with students in small groups weekly to develop their vocal and musicianship skills from the most basic concepts through the college level. Tone quality, breath support and musical expression are cultivated within the individual singers, while working together as an ensemble culminates in an exciting array of virtual performances, presenting world premieres and collaborating with an exceptional roster of professional artists from around the world.
Additionally, students have the exclusive opportunity to participate in annual international summer tours and national concerts at premier venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. An online audition information session will take place on Saturday, November 7th with entry into the program beginning January 2021. Individual virtual audition appointments will be scheduled the week of November 8th.
Candidates must be between the ages of 5 and 12 years old
No choral/musical experience to some choral/musical experience
Auditions Will Consist of:
- Scales (to evaluate the tone quality of the voice)
- Rhythmic exercises (to evaluate rhythmic precision)
- Pitch matching (to evaluate intonation)
Senior Division Auditions:
Age 10 years or older
Some to significant choral, musical, solo or vocal performance experience
Auditions Will Consist of:
- Scales (to evaluate the tone quality of the voice)
- Rhythmic exercises (to evaluate rhythmic precision)
- Pitch matching (to evaluate intonation)
- Solo Piece—a song of the applicant’s choosing that best shows the student’s vocal and expressive capability. The piece must be sung a cappella, however a starting pitch may be requested. Suggested pieces include “Caro Mio Ben” or “The Star-Spangled Banner”.
