We had the Sunday Funday of our lives this week!! My hubs and I took the kids on a little “field trip” to Spider Mountain Bike Park to see what mountain biking down a hill of switch back turns would be like. Turns out it’s quite an adventure, and our family had THE BEST TIME EVER!!!

I scored major Mom points with the family, and we are already planning a return trip. Y’ALL it’s so much fun and the view of Lake Buchanan & the Texas Hill Country is serene! You start your adventure by getting set up with your gear–Bikes, Pads & Helmets. The staff at Spider Mountain is so helpful, and they really aim to make sure your experience is safe and stress free. They even created a Beginner’s Guide to review before your arrival. It totally helped me feel more prepared for our excursion.

If you don’t own a mountain bike, Spider Mountain has you covered. They rent Rocky Mountain Bikes with full shocks on the front and back tires + a seat you can adjust while you are riding!! The bikes are amazing, and I’m seriously asking Santa for one!!

You can save on lift tickets by purchasing online at spidermountain.com — as much as 40% the lift ticket window rate of $50. You can bring your own bike and helmet. The resort does offer high end, full suspension bike rentals for $99, with helmets and padding for $25. Gift cards are also available in various denominations. After your gear is set, you take a scenic chair lift to the top of the mountain {350 Feet high to be exact!} while gazing over Lake Buchanan and green hills for miles. Spider Mountain has the only chair lift in Texas, so you can add that to your holiday dinner trivia list.

From the top of the mountain you can choose your own adventure AKA– 8 different down hill bike paths. The bike paths are rated based on level and ability just like ski slopes are rated. Green for Easy, Blue for Intermediate, Black and Double Black for Advanced. Since we are mountain bike novices, and our kids are young (6 yrs & 8 yrs) we stuck with the green —Itsy Bitsy Trail— and it was just enough thrill for us!

Our kids did great on their first mountain biking excursion. My daughter is 6 and was able to navigate the Itsy Bitsy trail very easily. She is sort of a thrill seeker (having an older brother!) I actually did the worst, and was the only one who wiped out! haha
But as my husband would say, I’m on the graceful yet clumsy side so it’s pretty typical.

Once you finish your first mountain bike run you’re hooked, and it’s back up the chair lift to give it another go!!

Take Note:: Spider Mountain doesn’t have a restaurant on-site, so plan accordingly! Most people bring food and tailgate from their vehicles, but there is a taco food truck on the weekends.
