Hey to all the mamas out there! My name is Tahlia Morgan, and I am beyond thrilled to start writing for Austin Moms! Allow me to share a bit about me, my family, and our on-the-go life here in Austin, Texas.

I am a born and raised Austinite with family ties in the city that go back at least 5 generations. There are streets all over the southwest area that are named after my family lineage, Brodie Lane being one of the largest ones! Needless to say, my family has some proud Texas roots. So when I decided to move to Los Angeles after I graduated high school in 2004, my family wasn’t super excited. It came as no real surprise though, I had been talking about moving away, and exploring the big city since I was a pre-teen.

LA was good for me, I met my husband there, I found my ultimate best friend there, and Jesus met me there. Who moves to LA and finds God? Well… Me! My husband, Dallas, (no Texas affiliation, he’s from North Carolina, ha) and I were married in 2009 when we were only 22 and 23 years old. My parents were a bit freaked because we were so young, but again, it came as no real surprise. I am a fly by the seat of her pants kind of girl, and when I get an idea, I run with it! Fortunately I made the right choice in my hubby. He is my solid as a rock, honest-abe, dedicated and always forgiving man. He laughs with me, cries with me, and even carries me upstairs to bed when I have fallen asleep on the couch. He is as close to a fairy tale knight in shining armor as you can get!

In 2012 I found out I was pregnant! We had just decided we were ready to start trying and we were pumped that it happened so fast! Then a few weeks later our world came crashing down. I suffered a miscarriage and we lost our precious baby. Everything in LA felt tainted after that. It was time for a clean start. We began looking for a new place to move. I had recently decided to do a fresh binge watch on a classic from my high school years, “One Tree Hill“. As I re-watched this lovely little American teen drama series, my husband revealed to me where it was filmed, an adorable little coastal town in North Carolina called Wilmington. I had to live there!

So off we went from the west coast to the east coast, living out our adventure. A year went by, and still no pregnancy. We reached out to the local fertility clinic and went through all the appointments and all the checks, and everything came back all clear. Unexplained Infertility was the title that was splashed across my medical notes. No reason, no explanation, just no baby. We decided to start the adoption process instead of pursuing fertility treatment because adoption was always something that had been in our “plans” even back to when we were dating. There is a lot to unpack in our adoption story, and I will share all of that with you in a later post, but my journey to motherhood blossomed on November 14, 2015, when my beautiful, perfect, dark haired, brown-eyed daughter, Kalliope Pearl, was born! The burden I had felt for so long was lifted from my shoulders as I wrapped my tiny girl up and took her home, to be my daughter, forever!

I did end up pursuing fertility treatment after Kalliope was born, and thanks to the miracle that is IVF, we had our first son, Oliver Ace. Oliver screamed so loud when he was born that he literally tore his lung and had to be rushed to the NICU. And now at the age of 4 years old, he is still just as loud! We were settling in to life as a family of 4 when God decided to drop a glitter bomb on us, I found out I was miraculously, unexpectedly, pregnant! At this moment, living in the cutest little beach town, with my hunky hubby and two perfect little crazy kiddos, I realized I was going to have three kids, 3 and under, and I had no family in town. I had to move back to Texas!

My husband packed up our life and we moved back to Austin in August of 2018 when I was 5 months pregnant. Jet Ray was born that December and he is as wild as they come. Pure joy radiates from him, and he has a smile that you can’t say no to. He will wrestle anyone and anything that is willing to wrestle with him, and he is the perfect little brother for Kalliope and Oliver. We have also decided we are ready to add a few more crazies to our crew. We are already pushing on year 5 of sleep deprivation, I have accepted that I can’t have anything nice in my house as long as my children are all under the age of 10, and I spend every extra dollar I have on them anyway, so why not add in another kiddo or two. Kalliope is already praying for a sister, and I am not even trying to get pregnant just yet! But Lord willing, our family will continue to grow, and blossom, and thrive.

I love being a mama, it’s the one thing that I always felt was missing from my life, and my three sweet kids have fully filled that void. What’s funny is, now that the only name I hear 90 times a day is “Mom, Mommy, Mama” I am ready to re-find Tahlia. Writing for AustinMoms.com is a part of that journey. To find my voice, as a mother, as a friend, as a daughter, as a wife, and to share it with all of you. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this beautiful tribe of mamas, and I look forward to sharing my world with you.
