St. Gabriel’s understands that maximizing academic retention is a priority for parents, while also acknowledging that for children to thrive, their interests must be engaged and their creativity piqued. Thus, St. Gabriel’s Catholic School is moving Full STEAM Ahead with its seven-week summer camp program, beginning the week of June 7th, 2021. St. Gabriel’s camps promise to keep children immersed in learning without compromising the prerequisites of fun and excitement. Each week, campers will face novel and nontraditional challenges while growing in imagination and creativity, building confidence, and learning important lessons about perseverance and resilience.

With summer upon us, many families are looking for exciting and fun ways to keep their children engaged and most likely somewhere other than in front of their devices! These summer months are such an important time for children to not only deepen their interests, meet new friends, and experience never before encountered activities, it is also a critical time to stop the academic “summer slide”.

While a summer slide may conjure up images of a water park or playground, the true meaning of the concept is not nearly as fun. The academic summer slide indicates the loss of learned material your child will experience over the summer. Many teachers will spend the first weeks of a new school year addressing this slide by reviewing material learned the previous school year before covering the current year’s curriculum. Don’t worry! St. Gabriel’s has a solution! Research proves quality academic camps are a valuable way to keep young minds actively engaged, lessening the very real summer slide.

St. Gabriel's Catholic SchoolSt. Gabriel’s camps are expertly designed by our amazing SGCS teachers and will utilize our state-of-the-art, first of its kind in Central Texas, makerspace. Our STEAM-focused education curriculum empowers campers by creating opportunities to shape and influence the world around them with creative and analytic inspiration. Students will be employing the St. Gabriel’s d.Lab during each week-long camp to move from conceptualization and design to implementation and execution of their own imaginative projects. This program allows for experiential learning with an emphasis on innovation, solution-seeking, and collaboration. Camp activities include challenges such as building solar ovens (and using them to make s’mores!), designing and pitching products in our own version of Shark Tank, creating a custom constellation viewer, building their own musical instruments, and much more.

St. Gabriel’s prioritizes love, compassion, and safety for its students, August through May. That same commitment continues throughout summer programming for students within the SGCS school community as well as for children in the community at large. Campers will be grouped by grade level to ensure activities are age-appropriate, fun, and stimulating. Summer Camp registration is now open and available to all children in Pre-K 3-8th grade. SGCS camps are hosted at St. Gabriel’s Catholic School, with extended care options available, daily.

Join us at St. Gabriel’s as we go Full STEAM Ahead!
