A recent survey reported that nearly 70% of parents lose a total of 133 nights of sleep in baby’s first year. Sleep deprivation is common for families with young children and thanks to a group of pediatric sleep experts, today we celebrate World Baby Sleep Day 2022.

Started in 2017, Baby Sleep Day was created by the Pediatric Sleep Council, as a day to recognize and bring attention to the importance of healthy sleep for your baby. It uses an international platform to give resources and support to families with the goal of promoting benefits and tips for healthy sleeping for you and your family. The ultimate goal is to prevent sleep problems before they arise.

The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that sleep issues affect up to 50% of children. It’s important to not only know the benefits of healthy sleeping but to also know that you have support, should sleep problems arise. See below for healthy baby sleeping tips.

Understand the benefits of Healthy Sleeping-Sleeping is essential for healthy brain development, immune system function, physical development…the list goes on and on

Get to know your Baby’s sleep cues-These are signs that your baby gives when they are reading for sleep. This can include but aren’t limited to yawning, fussiness, drooping eyelids etc.

Create and Establish a Bedtime Routine-Establishing a baby’s bedtime routine can not only improve your baby’s sleep, but can also give you a more relaxing night

Hire a Sleep Specialist-There is no specific age to work with a sleep consultant, but early expert advice can be helpful if you think you could benefit from their services.

Early recognition of sleep issues with your baby can be a game changer. Consulting with a sleep consultant can be a great tool in getting your baby to better sleep. Here are a few local sleep consultants that may be worth your while but I encourage you to do your own research.
