As a parent of 3 school-aged children, the past 2 years have been such a wild ride. With an abrupt halt to life just a little over 2 years ago and figuring out how to navigate online schooling to discovering learning gaps and figuring out tutors, the idea of the impending STAAR test sounds mentally exhausting.
Last Spring {2021} my oldest took the STAAR test for the first time and failed both the math and writing portions, which makes up 2/3 of the exam. While we try not to put too much pressure or emphasis on the exam, at the end of the day, we know that how he performs on this standardized test will give us a glimpse into future standardized exams like the ACT and SAT. So even though this test shouldn’t matter, it absolutely does! We’ve spent the last 14 months pouring into our son to ensure we bridge his learning gaps, but at the end of the day, nearly 40% of all students will fail the math portion of the STAAR test.
This year, McDonald’s is showing their community appreciation by offering students in grades 3–8 and ISD employees with a valid ID a FREE healthy breakfast on the first day of STAAR testing, Tuesday, April 5 from 6a – 9a.
The breakfast will consist of:
• Choice of one (1): Egg McMuffin® or Fruit & Maple Oatmeal
• Choice of one (1): Low-Fat Milk, Honest Kids® Appley Ever After® Apple Juice Drink, or small Minute Maid® Orange Juice
• Apple Slices
