I’m Carla Jian Primero. In March 2020, I was 4.5 months postpartum, living in Chicago with my husband, Matt, and two young children, Mason and Bianca. The pandemic brought many things to the surface–new hobbies, struggles, and revelations. Maybe it was the challenges of the lockdown during the dark winter months or what felt like the longest maternity leave feeling so disconnected, I was seeking more. I was not quite sure what that “more” was, yet, so I wrote in my journal, “I want MORE, and I am open to abundance coming my way.” Throughout the years of living more mindfully, I have learned to lean into my intuition and that manifestation comes with action. In May 2021, during a casual conversation with my husband, he asked, “Can we move to Austin?”. And without hesitation I said, “Let’s do it, babe!” We moved our life to Texas in just a few months. The four of us have been in the Austin suburbs since August 2021, and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. My “more” is here and just getting started.

I have been in the wellness and fitness space instructing at top Chicago studios, for seventeen years. This has given me the privilege to teach a variety of fitness modalities, different yoga styles, and collaborate with like minded individuals and brands to bring people together. My move to a totally new city was a catalyst to launch my brand, Carla Jian Wellness, which combines two of my favorite things–wellness and community. Carla Jian Wellness was born by the power of Zoom, and an on-demand library, which has since evolved into an online platform and space for women. It has created the space to move, breathe, and find calmness in busy lives through mindful self-care practices like yoga, sculpt, and meditation. The years of healing and conquering my own struggles has inspired my lifework to be of service to other women, especially those that are coming into a whole new world or stage of motherhood. A supportive community where you can show up as you are without judgement is what we all deserve. I have found the harmony in the hard times and I am passionate about holding space for other mothers to do the same. Whether it’s teaching a meditation class to let go of anxiety or sharing a candid messy motherhood moment on Instagram, I want to be that reminder to other moms that they are not alone. Having this corner of digital space has allowed me to stay connected to mothers in any part of the world.

The opportunity to be a contributor for Austin Mom’s Blog is an honor. My intention with this role is to share my favorite Austin experiences, positive energy, and to be a guide to live a more whole, balanced life. I hope my contribution resonates with the Austin Mom’s Blog reader, and gives other mothers permission to find their “more”. Thank you for having me be part of this growing community.

  1. I know Carla through my daughter…..her bio isn’t even a fraction of what this woman is about….she gives back to her friends and community without expecting anything in return and ALWAYS included me when I was in town to visit even though I am old enough to be her mom and perhaps grandma.
