Did you know that the Plus Size Market makes up for almost 20% of the ENTIRE U.S. Fashion industry? I didn’t – and I am a plus size girl. Knowing this statistic, one would think it is easy to find fashions for us lovely ladies…but in fact, my search was almost a dead end, when it came to locally owned boutiques.

Over the last few weeks, I have gone on a true scavenger hunt for plus size clothing at locally owned, small business boutiques in Austin. Shockingly, upon checking with most boutiques; I was told…”we don’t carry a plus size line, but sometimes our larges or kimono styles fit our plus sized customers.” Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a good kimono BUT that is not all us plus sized ladies want to wear.

Here are some of Austin’s best places for plus sized gals to feel good about themselves when they shop. Additionally, all 3 businesses highlighted below can be shopped online – because one thing we need more than carbs, is more time!

Bizzy Lizzy Boutique – Bee Cave

Bizzy Lizzy Boutique is an online boutique that sells embroidered clothing to women size XS-3XL. Almost everything they sell has some type of embroidery, stitch, sequin or embellishment.  Owner, Lindsey Neuhaus and her teen daughter Caroline, started the business to embrace that laid back, casual southern style. Bizzy Lizzy has easy to wear styles that you can simply throw on with jeans, flip flops or boots. Their pieces are timeless, colorful and perfect for that festive event, football game, casual day at work, wine tour, margarita date or any Instagram-able moment in your life.

Owner Lindsey explains, “I am 5ft 10in with broad shoulders.  For most of my life I have rarely been able to walk into a boutique and find something off the hanger that fits (or pants that are long enough). It is important to me to provide a wide range of sizes (XS-3XL) because we are all different shapes and sizes and we all deserve cute clothes, right?!?”

Look out for the Bizzy Lizzy Boutique at many local events; such as, A Christmas Affair, Le Garage Sale and more.

Paiyh (Put Art in Your Heart) – Hill Country Galleria

What started out as a small dance studio 14 years ago, has grown to one of the largest dance studios (and more!) in west Austin. After taking ownership of PAIYH 4 years ago, Beth Ann Hawley, has added a fun boutique to the studios storefront and online platforms. Additionally, they offer adult dance classes; so you can shop and get your grove on! PAIYH’s clothing boutique has sizes ranging from newborn – XXL. As a normal size 16, I was able to find plenty of cute fashions that were as trendy as the teens I work with!

I had a chance to chat with Beth Ann when I checked out the store. Here’s what she said was a huge priority for her. “I am about finding the joy in life and spreading that others. I want all of my customers, clients and dancers to leave happier than when they walked in.”

Just her quote makes me smile big!
