When putting together your baby registry, it’s way too easy to fill it with all the big ticket items. The perfect car seat that attaches to the stroller, a big crib, the comfiest rocking chair for the nursery. Check, check, check.

This list is all about the little things! The things that are easy to overlook and that you might think aren’t that important to have on hand – but trust me, you’ll want them. Here are my top items to add to your baby registry right now:

Baby Carrier

Baby carriers are a mother’s best friend! This amazing tool will help you get back to multitasking (when you’re ready of course) while keeping your baby close and content. I recommend a wrap style baby carrier for the infant days, then a more structured carrier for when your baby gets a little bigger. Solly, Ergo and Artipoppe are my favorite brands!

Haaka Silicone Hand Pump

This is a must have if you’re planning to breastfeed! Not only is the Haaka easy to use and inexpensive, it has multiple uses. You can use this hand pump to manually express milk and to catch your letdown from the side you’re not breastfeeding on as well. It comes in clutch when you’re on the go or in emergency situations.

Nursing Pillow

Since we’re on the topic of breastfeeding, this item was an absolute game changer in those first few weeks! It provides much needed support while you get the groove of nursing. Don’t skip it!

Pumping Bra

Another often overlooked item that is a lifesaver to have on hand! Add a few different styles to your registry so you’re prepared to pump hands free in comfort.

Diapers and Wipes

This one seems like a no-brainer, but many people leave diapers or wipes off of the list. You can never have too many of them! It’s great to have both newborn and size 1 on hand, or cloth diapers are a wonderful option to try. Opt for the fragrance free wipes!

Diaper Bag

You’ll be carrying this bag around everyday for at least a few years, so choose wisely! I love having a backpack with plenty of different pockets to store all the random things, leaving my hands free for baby holding!

Swaddle and/or Sleep Bag

One thing I learned as a new mother, is that sleep is life. In the first month after having my son, I bought about five different swaddles and sleep bags, trying to find his “favorite” (aka the one that kept him asleep the longest). I also found out that a regular swaddle blanket and a swaddle with velcro or a zipper are two very different things. Add a few different options to your registry, it won’t hurt to have them on hand!

Sound Machine

A bedtime must have for our light little sleepers! The Hatch Baby Sound Machine has over 10 different sounds and also doubles as an epic night light for those middle of the night feedings.

Bottle Sterilizer

Surprisingly, this became one of my most used items from my registry! It became a nightly ritual to sterilize all of my pump parts, bottles, binkies and any other random things that needed sterilizing. It conveniently dries and stores all of the items until you need it again.

Burp Cloths and Bibs

Burp cloths are an everyday essential item, you just can’t have enough. Muslin burp cloths are my go to, they are both soft and absorbent. There are so many cute styles of bibs on the market now, but the bandana style is just so cute on baby boys!

Takeout Gift Certificates

The first couple of months after your little one arrives are a whirlwind, and even if you have family and friends bringing meals it’s nice to have stress free options! Takeout services like UberEats and GrubHub offer gift certificates.

Baby Monitor

18 months later, this is still an item I use everyday! There are so many good ones on the market, but I recommend purchasing one that you don’t have to use an app on your phone to watch. It’s nice to be able to scroll and watch your baby on a separate monitor at the same time.

Baby First Aid Kit, Rectal Thermometer and Nail Clippers

You can never be too prepared for emergencies, and you’ll be surprised how often little baby finger nails need to be trimmed!

Car Seat Mirror

So you can easily spy on your little one in your rear view mirror. A must!

Baby Swing or Bouncer

Go ahead and add both of these to your registry! You won’t know which one your baby prefers until you try it, and these items will come in handy when you need a quick bathroom break.

Silicone Suction Plate, Utensils and Cups

Sure, you won’t need these for a few months, but your little one will be eating in no time. These are great to have on hand when the day rolls around. Go Sili is Austin Moms approved!
