If you prefer to stay inside Austin City Limits or Austin Metroplex, then check out our list of local–and almost local– last minute Spring Break hotspots!

Crux Climbing Center -My kids love to climb! If your kiddos are the same or you have been wanting them to try out a structured wall climbing then take them to Crux’s Family Day. Your kids will love it and they will get some energy out. Crux has a Central Austin location and a South Austin location.

Thinkery -Austin’s children’s museum!  They have outdoor and indoor activities for all ages. Honestly, this children’s museum is great and my children love it! They are a little older now and I cannot wait for them to go back and explore again. Trusting they will start their parents night out again as well.

Austin FC-If you haven’t gone to the premier Austin soccer team’s game then you are missing out. The stadium is gorgeous and the games are full of energy! Conveniently located in North Central Austin near the Domain. There are multiple areas to park and if you are close enough to grab the Metro rail or bus to save on parking time and money plus the extra experience.

Texas Stars– Fun hockey games for the fam

Bob Bullock Museum -Austin’s Bullock Museum is our beautifully constructed museum in downtown Austin. Walking up to it is an experience in itself. They have teen and children’s activities during Spring Break (tickets required).

Austin Rodeo – Rodeo is not just about concerts and exhibitions however they have tons of fun activities the kids will enjoy. You can join the Kids Fun Run and watch pig swine races and jump into the Kidstown as well as let them explore, ride and spend some tickets/coins (cash) at the Carnival!

There is also plenty of last minute Spring Break fun to be had right outside Austin! Check them out below:

Lost Pines Ziplines – Take the kids out to Cedar Creek and zip-line through the hill country. There are several packages as well as times available to zip-line. Side note: we completed an adventure zip-line course in Asheville NC and my kids loved it-can’t wait to take them here!

Science Mill in Johnson City – A short drive to Johnson City, about an hour from Central Austin!

Pedernales State Park – Gorgeous hiking in the TX Hill Country around Johnson City. As a child growing up in Austin, we ventured here for a field trip and it was THE trip! Anyway, the falls are beautiful and fun to cool off in after a hike.

Waco Cameron Park Zoo -Venture up to Waco not only to check out famous Texans Chip and Joanna Gaines but to check out the fantastic zoo they have! Tons of animals to learn about and explore as well as activities.

Waco Magnolia Silos -Waco has been added to the international map. As a native Texan, Waco is now a definite stop on your travels, thanks to the Gaines’, and it is beautiful what they have done and continue to encourage refurbishing the area around now iconic Silos. This is a great family outing and a quick trip. Grab coffee, a cupcake and something for your home or garden!

New Braunfels-Float the Comal or the Guadalupe rivers. This entails renting a tube if you don’t happen to have your own, taking a breath and jumping into the crispy cold river water. We have conquered the river several times however taking your littles along is a different ball game. Be diligent. There is a certain age where the child can swim and be responsible so of course that is up to parents’ discretion. There is also a fantastic children’s museum for the younger ones!

Dreamland Dripping Springs -Y’all! This place is so much fun. You can easily spend a full day there and then some. Putput golf, pickleball, splash pad, concerts and tons of other fun things for kiddos. All while mom and dad and grab a beer or wine on tap. Fun and more fun! Find a short term rental in the area and go back again.
