Hey there, Austin Moms! The month of June is heavy on the reasons to celebrate. Who’s ready for BBQs and pool parties? I’m here to talk about Juneteenth and all the fun events around to celebrate. We acknowledge this holiday to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in Texas. There are always so many ways Austin and surrounding areas celebrate during that weekend. Here are some of my favorite Juneteenth events in Austin
- Round Rock Juneteenth Festival (Old Settlers Park at Palm Valley | June 17th, 3:30p) is a big one with tons of vending, food trucks, fun, and MUSIC. I’d suggest getting there early and before dark for parking purposes. The concerts tend to draw most of the traffic. My kiddo and I had a blast last year.
- Juneteenth Block Party (Robin Bledsoe Park | June 17th, 5p) – This Leander event is family-friendly and free. Who doesn’t love block party vibes?
- Dream Out Loud Experience Presents “Youthpreneur” Juneteenth Edition (Givens Park | June 11th 1p-3:30) – This is for all the business-minded kiddos. You can attend to support, network, learn, or register for participation. Either way, it will be a great time to support our youth and encourage their creative minds.
- A Black Narrative Art Exhibit (ArtUs co at The Arboretum | June 18th 4p) will be a portrait series of black creatives by photographer Eric Coleman. Sweet treats and Jazz music will meet you there!
- Juneteenth Celebration Market (Rosewood Park | June 17th, 9a-4p) – There will be a parade, live music, food, and a ton of fun! You get to support small businesses and have fun with your family. It’s the perfect way to celebrate.
I hope you and your family can find ways to acknowledge such a meaningful day in history. If you attend one of these awesome Juneteenth events in Austin, I’d love to hear all about it! If there are other events I did not mention, comment and let us know!
