When I first became a mom of a very active little one, I realized just how much of a game changer a playground and/or a greenspace is when trying to go out to eat while STILL enjoying your meal. For me, there is nothing more anxiety provoking than sitting inside a nice restaurant when your little one starts squirming. Hence the wonderful restaurant with playgrounds – the perfect combination of fun and relaxation the whole family can enjoy. Thankfully Austin has a number of options for your dinner outings, and being a North Austin mommy, I’ll be covering some of the best restaurants with playgrounds in North Austin.
Dahlia Cafe specializes in country cooking and has a large enclosed playscape with both indoor and outdoor seating. We like to get their chicken fried steak and you can’t go wrong with any of their appetizers.
Mesa Rosa – I’ve personally never been to this location, but who doesn’t LOVE sitting back and watching your kids play on what looks to be on the largest restaurant playground in Austin, while you enjoy a nice cold margarita and some chips and queso on the patio.
South Fork Fun and Brew is a food truck park in Georgetown with live music, a bar and a playground. They are open Thursday – Sunday and have a variety of food options as well as a ton of events for the whole family.
Wildfire Park is a food truck park in Old Town Leander with swings, toys, and a ton of greenspace for kids. There is also a pretty large playground being built right next door where a brewery is popping up. We like to go on Saturday mornings, grab some coffee at Matinee!, an arepa at Brito’s (seriously so good!) and then walk around to check out all the local vendors at the mini farmers market.
Mandola’s Italian Kitchen in Cedar Park has pasta, playgrounds, and gelato – what more do you need?! This Cedar Park restaurant has one of my favorite enclosed playscapes and greenspace, with a notable patio and free gelato with a kids meal.
The Fieldhouse at the Crossover – This place has pretty much everything covered. In addition to a full bar and enclosed and covered playscape, the Fieldhouse has food trucks, an indoor arcade, pickle ball, and a sand volleyball court. When sports aren’t being casted on the big screens, they host a variety of different events that run from live music to movie nights.
The Good Lot is a family friendly Beer Garden in Cedar Park with a ton of shade, a play area, greenspace for kids to run wild and indoor and outdoor seating. The Good Lot has live music, a variety of food trucks, and is an overall VIBE to meet a group of friends for a beer and a playdate.
Phil’s Icehouse – With delicious burgers and ice cream next door, Phil’s is a great place to go to hangout with the fam. They have multiple locations across the Austin area and offer “Parents’ Recess” M-F, which is essentially a big happy hour/playdate for parents and kids.
Aviators Pizza has multiple locations across Austin, but for North Austin families you can go to their Parmer or Mueller location. They have great pizza, a shaded outdoor playground (at their Parmer location), and an extensive list of draft beers.
Please add any restaurants I missed in the comments section!
