School is back, and so are germs! It’s important to me to help build my family’s immunity in a way that’s simple as possible. This way it’s easy to stick to, and easy to pass on to you! Here are some of the things we do at home to stay healthy and keep our immune health. By doing these steps, you’re less likely to invest your time in figuring out school/work notes, doctors visits, and pharmacy drive-thrus.

- Get Enough Sleep
- For adults, it is recommended to get 7-9 hours of sleep each night. However, it is not just the amount of sleep, the quality is equally as important. Great sleep will leave you feeling more energized and in a better mood. Your body needs that time to rest and repair itself. The number one thing good sleep benefits is our decisions during the day–this goes for our little ones in school, too. Make sure the kiddos get to bed at a reasonable hour so the whole family can get the rest they need!
- Be More Active During the Day
- No, you don’t need to be in the gym for 2-3 hours a day. Simply just move your body throughout the day! Even adding a couple 5 minute walks throughout your day can increase immune health! When we move our body, it helps our lymphatic system drain to help drain fluid, waste and toxins. You can implement this by going to the mail for a walk, parking further from your office or grocery story, or adding a stroll to your morning routine. When the kiddos get home from school, spend some time outside before hurrying in the house. Chances are they spent a bulk of their day in a desk–they need movement, too! Getting Vitamin D straight from the source is an added bonus!
- Vary your Fruits and Vegetables
- I love meal prepping, but sometimes we can get stuck doing the same old same old. Chicken, rice and broccoli is fine but adding a different variety of vegetables will bring more benefits to your immune health. It’s still summer, which means we can try all the different vegetables and fruits this season has to offer before Fall comes around. When we vary our foods, it helps support our microbiome, and improves our gut health–which supports 70% of our immune system ! If you’re having trouble getting your kiddos to eat their veggies…check out these great tips.
The goal is to stay healthy and energized while saving time! Cheers (with a green smoothie) to a great school year and less sick days!
