Fortlandia is an annual exhibit that takes place at the 284 acre Lady Bird Johnson Wildlower Center. Our family looks forward to it every year as one of our annual traditions.

Here’s everything you need to know Before you go!

  • Fortlandia is an experiential architecture exhibit which features structures that kids and adults alike can marvel, play, and explore. There are 8 structures to explore along a trail within the Center and every year they are different! This year Fortlandia is open from October 4, 2024 through February 2, 2025.
  • Fortlandia access is included with general admission to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Tickets for the Wildflower Center are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $8 for ages 3-17, kids 2 and under are free. One of the perks of membership is free admission and is a great deal for families.
  • Parking: I need to know the parking situation for every place I attend. There is a large parking lot on site but it does get full. Street parking is available up and down La Crosse street. Please do watch the little ones if you end up parking along the street.
  • This is an outdoor experience – so dress accordingly.
  • Strollers are fine- there are large paths/ sidewalks that you can stay on, although some of the forts may be just off the trail.
  • We usually spend several hours at the Wildflower Center when we do our Fortlandia visit. Make sure you leave time for these must do’s at the Wildflower Center- your kids won’t want to leave the waterfall, cave, digging, or tower.
  • There is a little gift shop before at the entrance ( also restrooms are up front), with many different items for purchase and a café on site. You can bring in water bottles and snacks. We usually do enjoy a post Fortlandia ice cream!
  • Fun fact: Previous forts can be found throughout the Austin are at St. Elmo’s Brewing, The Leaning Pear in Wimberly, and Lakewood Park in Leander.

The weather is perfect for your Fortlandia adventure. Let us know what your favorite structures are this year! Here are a few photos from our previous Lady Bird Wildflower Center and Fortlandia visits.
