Austin Pets Alive! announces the launch of the Five-Star Foster Program. APA!’s Five-Star Foster Program places dogs with specific behavior management needs into appropriate foster homes in order to reduce their stress, continue their training, and teach them what a loving home environment is.
Five-Star Fosters provide training and socialization for their foster dogs and manage them in a safe and consistent manner with continual support from APA!’s renowned Dog Behavior Team. What makes the Five-Star Foster Program different from APA!’s main Dog Foster Program is the specific subset of dogs and home setups for those particular pups. Some may need an adult-only home; some thrive with a dog sibling and others may need a yard. The dogs eligible for the Five-Star Foster Program come in all shapes and sizes, with different kinds of homes.
“The five stars represent what our fosters selflessly give to these dogs: trust, rehabilitation, love, patience and training,” said Laura Thomas, APA! Dog Behavior Program Manager. “Opening your home to one of these special dogs is the ultimate form of lifesaving.”
Austin Pets Alive! takes in approximately 5,000 dogs every year from shelters that do not have enough space or resources to care for them. Some of those dogs have behavioral challenges that require more attention than a typical dog. Through APA!’s Five-Star Foster Program, these special dogs have a chance at finding their forever home through fosters who are willing to be consistent, patient, and loving.

Back for its 15th year, the Maudie’s Moonlight Margarita Run and Party is The Trail Foundation’s largest annual fundraising event that brings together two of Austin’s favorite things—running and margaritas! Unlike other major fundraisers in Austin, this event allows ladies to trade their little black dress and heels for shorts and running shoes while gentlemen can leave their ties at home.
More than 2,500 runners are expected for the 5K run that will begin at 8 p.m. along Walter Seaholm Drive and travel the streets bordering Lady Bird Lake. The Maudie’s Moonlight Margarita Run and Party helps raise critical private funds for improvement projects on the 10.1-mile lush, urban path in the heart of Austin.
The Run and the Party are separate ticketed events, both beginning at 8 p.m. Participants can choose to run/walk the 5K Race and celebrate with a margarita cheers at the finish line; join the Party on the lawn of the Seaholm Power Plant and enjoy all you can eat Tex-Mex and margaritas catered by Maudie’s, OR do both!
Tickets for the Run include an event T-shirt, a margarita at the finish line for all runners 21 or older, and race timing. Tickets for the Party include margaritas and dinner by Maudie’s Tex-Mex under the stars and lights of downtown Austin, complete with music and dancing, photo ops with TTF’s giant new 3D Trail Love sculpture, and a pop-up shop by active lifestyle brand Outdoor Voices.
Now through June 4, tickets for the Run and Party are $100; tickets for the Run Only are $35; and tickets for the Party only are $70. Prices will increase starting Tuesday, June 5. Visit https://thetrailfoundation.org/MMR to register now.

The mission of Colibri Spanish Immersion Preschool is to provide a stimulating Montessori-based environment that will help children develop the attitudes, skills, and ideas that are foundational to learning. Children will be fully immersed in the Spanish language as soon as they begin their day.
Maria Montessori recognized in her daily observations of children that they are self-motivated to explore and learn about the world around them. Montessori methods and materials encourage children to observe, to think, and to judge. Guided by Montessori’s example our role as educators is to prepare a safe and stimulating environment in which our students will develop healthy relationships and emotional intelligence.
