Homeschool Day: Texas Transportation

Explore transportation at the Bullock Museum this winter as we feature the IMAX® documentary film Train Time and discover the ways that Texans have moved around throughout history. Join us in special transportation-related activities and classes that explore the exciting history of transportation design and technology.

Museum admission is free for homeschool families and RSVPs are not required.

Attend special hands-on activities between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Discover the funny and unusual history and science of hot air balloons and craft your own hot air balloon lantern in this special paid class!
11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Talk to a museum curator about a transportation-themed artifact and the role in played in Texas’s history.
11:30 p.m. Enjoy a story time about Texas pilot Bessie Coleman and how she followed her dreams to fly.
12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Explore the history of horses in Texas and decorate a lucky horseshoe in this special paid class.
Drop in anytime between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for activities, resources, and exhibitions

Craft a camel collage ornament and hear about the U.S. Army Camel Corps, which temporarily brought camels to Texas as a form of transportation.
Design, build, and race a boat in water.
Craft your own car air freshener and build your own road trip activity book that will bring Texas’s highways to life.
Design and assemble your own paper 3D lowrider car.
Color and assemble your own paper 3D Dala horse and learn the history of the Swedish Texans who introduced them to the Lone Star State.
Explore stations with community partners, including Safe Routes to School, Austin Rising School, Texas Department of Transportation, and the Susanna Dickinson Museum.
