Come celebrate the launch of the new book, Kind, But Kind of Weird: Short Stories on Life’s Relationships!
We’ll be sippin’ on coffee and cocktails at The Hive, with a few fancy, themed beverages on the menu. There will be signed copies of the book (corny jokes are optional) and it’ll be a chance to meet some creative folks in Austin! The Hive also has a fully stocked bar, tasty pastries and breakfast sandwiches, and a big ol’ play area if you want to bring any kiddos along.
At 3 pm, we’ll keep the party going by heading up the road to Armadillo Den. Enjoy a spacious environment with plenty of seating, delicious drinks (try the Frozen Painkiller, which is reminiscent of a piña colada), four food trucks, axe throwing, and lots of TVs for watching the college football games.
More on the book below!
Joey Held’s debut short story collection Kind, But Kind of Weird dissects the relationships among the awkward and the offbeat, the coworkers and the cohabitants, the people waiting in the longest bathroom line at parties, and the passive-aggressive passersby.
In these anything-but-ordinary tales, take a ride with a failing GPS, which leads its lost passengers a bit too close to home . . .Tune in to the world of the one-hit wonder, trying to reclaim his former glory . . . Join an unwilling volunteer onstage as a magician performs the biggest trick yet . . .
Sometimes humbling, sometimes hilarious, and always truthful, Joey’s stories shine a light on the quirky, the eccentric, and all-too-realistic landscape that colors the relationships we have with one another, and with ourselves.
