Summer Storytime: Flying Free with the Susanna Dickinson Museum

July 9 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Learn about historic women in flight and make a wooden airplane to take home.

Event Details
Join the staff of the Susanna Dickinson Museum for a reading of Flying Free: How Bessie Coleman’s Dreams Took Flight, written by Karyn Parsons and illustrated by R. Gregory Christie. The book tells the story of Bessie Coleman, the first African American and Native American woman to earn a pilot’s license in 1921. Coleman became a renowned stunt pilot and an advocate for racial equality in aviation.

After the story, participants are welcome to put together their own balsa wood airplane to take home with them! The Summer Storytime series occurs alternating Tuesdays throughout the summer with storytelling events for ages 2–5. This program is presented with ASL interpretation.
