Building BLOCS serves children with autism and other language, behavior, and learning needs in the greater Austin area. Challenging behaviors often arise because children lack the ability to communicate. At Building BLOCS, the behavior therapist and language therapist collaborate on goals and methods, realizing that each of these areas is dependent on and contributes to the other. Also, ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis) and speech therapy are sought for most children with autism. It makes sense to house the two in one location. Our speech therapists also serve children with articulation disorders, fluency disorders, voice and resonance disorders, and receptive/expressive language disorders and delays.
The No Excuse Mom Group is a premier project funded under the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Fitness Without Borders. NEM is a group of moms focused on growing healthily, connecting our community, leading our youth and supporting each other. We have free workout locations throughout the world.
Our History: The No Excuse Mom movement was founded by Maria Kang. When she created her 2013 No Excuse Program, long-time fitness enthusiast, new mother (they gave birth on the same day) and friend, Lori-Anne Hare requested to start a private, online support group called the 2013NoExcuseMomChallenge. Maria agreed and the group grew to thousands of members in a few months. Together they witnessed the group connect deeply on success stories, recipe tips, exercise advice, budgeting ideas, venting sessions and holiday hiccups. It didn’t take long to see the unique energy that flowed from the group’s online presence. The No Excuse Mom online group page was co-founded by Lori Hare and is run by dedicated volunteer administrators. In 2014, Maria began efforts to establish local NEM workout groups ran by local leaders and directed by regional managers, and that’s when i become on board to represent Austin Tx.
We are moms, just like you. We have life, stress, work, kids, responsibilities and obligations. We struggle making time for workouts, we splurge on cookie dough and enjoy (and often need) a glass of wine. That’s life. And that’s completely okay. Balance is one of the keys to success.
Our goal is to encourage health, friendship and community. We believe strongly that health starts at home and begins with parents as a child’s first role model. Most of all, we believe in the importance of prioritizing your personal health. Despite the stress, fatigue and chaos in a mom’s day – we believe that you should make NO EXCUSES for not prioritizing your health.
We will provide you with knowledge, tools and inspiration to find what healthy means for you and your family. We are the guide on this journey. You will get workouts, healthy eating information, plus a healthy dose of motivation from our website. We will help you connect with other moms and know that you are not alone in your struggles.
We are all in this together.
Join us in the No Excuse Mom movement that is sweeping the world!
Calling all Austin area Moms interested in putting that fancy stroller to good use (because let’s face it, if you want to workout, your mini-me is going to have to tag along). This is a chance for all exercise-friendly Austin Moms to get together a couple times a week (or just once a week—whatever your schedule can allot) and get in a great workout! Who doesn’t like a little motivation while making friends (while panting heavily and trying not to pass out)? I also noticed that there are very few websites in existence that cater to strollers, so this would be a great group for all of us to get some much needed information about stroller-friendly places. A bit about why this group was started: I couldn’t find a comparable group to this one, so I thought ‘why not start one?’ My family and I are new to the Austin area (March 2014), and what better way to meet some outdoorsy friends for myself, my hubby, our son (Gage, August 2012) and our daughter (Gemma, March 2015)? I’m not fanatical about walking/running, I just enjoy it. I don’t have specific distances, but most often I stay around the 3 mile mark. I don’t mind stopping and taking a breather when a hill gets too intense. I enjoy a glass of wine (or 2 or 3) with dinner. I like the idea of local produce, but I still eat greasy burgers. This group should be fun, and many of the trails won’t be able to accommodate us all in a group, so having your own pace is great! Let’s get motivated, Mamas!

Reading Speed Study
Students participating in a controlled study in a public school special education classroom got triple the gain that kids getting one-on-one reading intervention got. The control group gained 12 words per minute reading speed, while the kids participating in the study gained 37 words per minute—and had a ball doing it!
Why This Is Our Passion
Having turned our own lives around using this movement-based method, we are devoted to helping kids avoid having to suffer through what we did, and give them a totally new future—without all the struggle. Most parents aren’t aware that this is even possible, but our clients will attest that the impossible can be achieved! And it’s FUN!
