It’s officially colder than Alaska, y’all. Warming centers in Austin are open for registration and will be open TONIGHT. If you or someone you know are in need of shelter, please see resources below.

These warming shelters will be open OVERNIGHT and are open to anyone in need. Registration is taking place at:

One Texas Center (OTC)

505 Barton Springs Road

  • Little Walnut Creek Branch Library, 835 W. Rundberg Ln
  • Terrazas Branch Library, 1105 E Cesar Chavez St
  • Ruiz Library, 1600 Grove Blvd

The Central Library Special Events Center, at 710 W. César Chávez St., will also open as a warming center from 6-9am Tuesday.

Pets are not permitted inside these cold weather shelters. If someone arrives with a pet, facility staff will contact Animal Services to provide pet support. Service animals are allowed at City facilities.

More information about the shelters can be found here or by calling 512-972-5055.

 Remember the 4 P’s:

People – Before even thinking about going outside, layer up. DO NOT use a generator, grill, camp-stove, or any gasoline, propane, or charcoal-burning device to heat the inside of your home because they generate deadly carbon monoxide gas.

Pets – Please bring them inside!

Pipes – Cover exposed pipes (socks and towels work if you don’t have a fancy one!), turn off outside faucets, drip ONE faucet only if needed.

Plants – cover your pretties or bring them inside.
