Austin Moms is thrilled to welcome Sophie Traulsen to the team…and to the city!

Community, in particular, mom friends are essential in surviving this complicated and beautiful journey we are on together.

Mom friends who are there for you to rant too – over the phone or over a glass of wine.

Mom friends who welcome you into their home when it’s messy and they show up as their authentic selves.

Mom friends who know that a glass of wine in the shower can turn a day around.

Mom friends who drop off meals when you’re newly postpartum without asking to come in or see the baby because they’ve been there and know you need your space.

Mom friends who don’t judge your parenting style, and support you in every decision you make without comparison because it’s right for you and your individual family.

Hey, I’m Sophie Traulsen and that’s the kind of mom friend I am. If that’s what you are too, you’ve come to the right place.    A woman breastfeeds at a picnic tableAs I approach the big 3-0 milestone in May, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey that has led me here – from falling in love, to building a life with my husband, and now, navigating the uncharted waters of parenthood with our precious soon to be 6-month-old daughter.

Let’s start with a little background. My husband and I have been together for over a decade, celebrating six years of marriage along the way. Our journey has been filled with laughter, love, and the occasional chaos that comes with blending two lives into one beautiful mess. And now, with the addition of our little one, our hearts have expanded in ways we never thought possible.

Pregnant woman and man walk hand and hand in frontAs we eagerly anticipate our move to Leander at the end of this week, the excitement we are feeling is tinged with a hint of nervousness. We’ve found our new home in the Crystal Falls Neighborhood and are excited to dive into the Austin culture, explore the area and make new friends!

Now, let’s talk about the real MVPs of our household – our furry friends. Penny and Poppy, our two mischievous cats, hold a special place in our hearts, alongside our lovable pooch, Luna who adds an extra layer of joy and chaos to our lives.

In my professional life, I wear the hat of a program manager in General Motors’ digital marketing realm. But when I’m not immersed in spreadsheets and meetings, you’ll find me in the kitchen, whipping up meals inspired by cultures from around the world. Cooking has always been a passion of mine, and now, as a mom, it’s a way for me to nourish not only my family’s bodies but also their souls.

A brown haired woman with sunglasses is wearing a baby and standing with a brown haired man with sunglasses at a market. But let’s get real for a moment. Motherhood has a way of turning your world upside down, in the best possible way. It’s a journey of self-discovery, filled with moments of overwhelming joy and bone-deep exhaustion. My mom style? Well, I like to think of it as leaning into things that are eco-friendly and economical, while still being realistic. Cloth diapers, and second-hand clothes? Count me in. But I’ll be the first to admit that I’m still figuring it all out as I go – and that’s okay.

Becoming a mom has also sparked a desire within me to be more present in the moment and less reliant on technology. Sure, I’ll always be a work in progress, but there’s something magical about putting down my phone and immersing myself fully in the wonder of my daughter’s giggles or the feel of her tiny hand wrapped around my finger.

We see the back of a woman’s and baby’s heads as they read a pop up bookAnd let’s not forget my guilty pleasures – trashy TV and Taylor Swift. Because let’s face it, every mom deserves a little escapism now and then, whether it’s indulging in the latest drama on reality TV (Love is Blind Season 6 anyone??) or belting out Taylor’s greatest hits in the car (find the best playlist for that here)

As we prepare to make our home in Austin, I’m excited to share this journey with you – the highs, the lows, and everything in between – from making new mom friends, to exploring Austin and the surrounding areas. So grab a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine, no judgment here), and join me as I navigate the beautiful chaos of motherhood. Cheers to new beginnings and endless adventures!
