Hey, mama, when did you last enjoy a Spa Day? At the beginning of the year, the founder of a nonprofit that I have been serving to build announced that she had scheduled one for me and the other five ladies on the board. We had just accomplished something major, and we were all exhausted and a tad bit grumpy. Trying to be a team player, I agreed, but to be honest. I did not want to go! At the moment, nothing about a spa day with these ladies, whom I actually really love, sounded relaxing. I thought of my to-do list and how everything was “urgent.”

“How could I fit in the time for a whole day? “

“Who was going to get Maddy from school? Did I really want to hang out with them for hours?”

“A spa day just seems so irresponsible.”

The days leading up to THE day were a little unsettling, and I could not figure out why.

But I put my hair in a bun, dressed in something comfy, released work for the day, took a deep breath, and there I was- walking the marbled halls, taking in the relaxing sounds, inhaling the lavender, and getting the girls.

Sis, let me tell you…it was such a lovely day. I have no regrets; ten stars; I highly recommend it! If you’ve been looking for a sign, here it is! Pamper yourself! Here are a few spas that I love or have come highly recommended.

Spa Kalahari – underneath all the splashing, and excitement, there is a calm, quiet, luxurious space for you to enjoy all the things. It’s perfect for some me time, girl time, or even a date day. (I swear my last massage was actually a whole new back; I definitely had a new pep in my step)

Milk + Honey—Choose from multiple locations throughout the city and enjoy the pampering and excellent customer service. You can also grab a few products to take home!

Miraval Austin Resort and Spa—If you’re planning an overnight getaway to pamper yourself, this is the place you want to go. Add this one to your Mother’s Day wish list, girl. This place is all about wellness and relaxation. Come home, a new woman!

Mantis Massage – local, woman-owned corrective deep tissue massage clinic. When we opened , we wanted to have a no-frills experience for people who are looking for effective massage therapy without any unnecessary add-ons. We don’t offer cucumber infused water or botanical makeup remover but we do provide excellent massage therapy from our team of highly skilled and awesome therapists.

Viva Day Spa + Med Spa – is a woman-owned and locally owned business (don’t we love that??). Viva encourages wellness from the inside out and supports those on a journey to wellness. It’s a great place to visit on a consistent schedule or for a spur-of-the-moment solo pamper date.

FACE FOUNDRIÉ is an efficient + effective focused facial bar specializing in all things face: facials, brows, lashes + skincare. With result-driven services to help you reach your #skingoals.

At the end of my most recent spa day, the one I dreaded, we all sat in the hot tub with our “mommy juice,” one of my girls asked why it was so hard for us to carve out the time to make it. We all agreed it was guilt. As moms, wives, and professionals, we tend to put ourselves on the back burner. We feel guilty because there is so much more to be done. Let me tell you, there will always be something to do, but we can’t pour from an empty cup. Maybe spas are not your thing. Whatever makes you feel full and brings your mind to rest…do that. Pause from your quest to save the world and pamper yourself, sis!
