One of the biggest things I hate about my home is the lighting so I am especially interested in today’s post. How many of you feel like the mood is ruined in your home due to poor lighting? Here’s how to choose the right lighting for your home! Oh and they have those adorable chandeliers perfect for a baby girl’s room or if you’re like me, in the bathroom!
Tesco DirectThe wrong lighting can make even the loveliest room less inviting, and can make day-to-day tasks such as reading or preparing food harder and less pleasant. Many of us put up with sub-optimal lighting without even realizing it. Maybe you’re already aware that your home could be better lit, but you’re just not sure where to start. Finding the ideal lighting set-up for your home may take a little planning, but it shouldn’t be a daunting project.

The first step is to consider what your lighting needs are. Your laundry room or box-room might not need more than a single light, but your living room, bedroom or dining room certainly will. If you’re using a computer, reading, doing close work or just relaxing in a room, your lighting needs will be
different for each activity.

In rooms where you’re going to be relaxing or entertaining, your focus should be on creating a pleasant atmosphere. As well as conventional lamps and overhead lights, look for a decorative piece that provides illumination while still looking good when it’s turned off. An example might be a string of
decorative fairy lights in eye-catching shapes, or a piece styled to look like a ship’s lantern.

When you’re thinking about lighting, don’t neglect natural light sources. Daylighting, as it’s become known, saves energy and provides a pleasant atmosphere by using natural light for illumination wherever possible. Make sure windows aren’t obstructed by heavy blinds and curtains, or by overgrown
shrubs and trees outside. For rooms with limited natural light, you might consider installing heliostats in your garden or light shelves on your windows. Heliostats and light shelves are large angled mirrors or reflectors, designed to reflect sunshine back into your house so that you can enjoy natural light even
during the hours when the window doesn’t receive direct sunlight.
