I had the pleasure of organizing and planning my best friend’s baby shower a couple months ago. It was a non-baby baby shower and I blogged all about it, here. First things first, I teamed up with Monica {a fellow Austin mommy} from One in the Oven Diaper Cakes to customize a centerpiece for the shower. From start to finish, the process was seamless…well, accept waiting on my crochet robot from Peru, apparently the cocaine capital of the world, but I’ll get to that in a minute.

I’ve never really been one to ogle over diaper cakes, but y’all, this was NO average diaper cake! It was a plane, with wings, a propeller, a pilot {insert, robot}, a tail, the whole kit and caboodle. It was beyond precious! There wasn’t one person who didn’t comment on the adorable center piece. The best part about the diaper plane is that everything is 100% reusable.

Here’s the plane that Monica created just for my best friend! The pictures DON’T do it justice. It was huge! At least 2′ long!

The chevron wings are actually a custom made blanket from an Etsy shop as is the robot blanket. So right off the bat, my BFF gets 2 blankets. Since the mommy-to-be is into robots, we also ordered a custom made crochet robot, again, through an Etsy shop. Okay, this was the only glitch in the whole process. I ordered it from Peru not knowing that Peru is the #1 drug export country in the world… yes, they surpassed Colombia. So long story short, my pilot robot got stuck in customs for TWO WEEKS in Miami. I was freaking out needless to say and called customs, the Etsy shop owner, the post office several times pleading with them that it wasn’t a robot stuffed with drugs! Thank goodness, the pilot was delivered just in time for the shower!

I loved working with Monica on making this gift for my best friend perfect and customized for her and her new bundle and can’t say enough about how excited I was with the finished product. If you’ve got a baby shower coming up in your near future, I promise this gift will be a HUGE hit and you will love working with Monica as much as I did!
