My family and I were lucky enough to receive two tickets to iFLY Indoor Skydiving from Austin Moms Blog and Do512 Family this past week. We decided to make it a family outing so we could all spend the day together (also, I needed my hubby to take pics because he is awesome like that). I was able to meet Jamie Jett and Heidi Okla of Do512 Family and talk a little about the event. It was a great opportunity to get families together to have some fun. In fact, the mission of Do512 Family couldn’t be any cooler: “To just do awesome things a lot…with kids.” Please check out all of the wonderful events and ideas they have to offer!
iFLY is an indoor skydiving experience that creates true free fall conditions, just like skydiving, without having to jump out of an airplane. iFLY’s vertical wind tunnel generates 1600 horse power from 4 powerful fans, creating a wall-to-wall cushion of air on which you can safely float. There’s no parachute, no jumping, and nothing attaching you to planet Earth. It’s just you and the air, and it’s the most incredible adrenaline rush.
My partner in crime was my four year old son. We practiced our position for days before the event. He was so excited to fly that he wanted to wear his superman cape every day. In fact he wore his superman shirt to go flying.

Since I had never done it myself either, I was unable to give him an accurate description of what we would be walking into. I’m sure that seeing mama was a little nervous didn’t help much either, but we both did it and we had a blast. Mario was a brave little soldier and flew both times. He never let go of the instructor, but that was ok as long as he felt safe.
Our instructor was Kirk and he was so nice. My son immediately felt comfortable with him. He was great with all of the other children as well. He even made the very nervous parents (uh-hum, me) feel at ease. Josh was our other instructor and he even gave a little performance showing how much you can do with the right amount of training. It would be awesome to be able to flip and dive like that one day! My little one and I completely agree on that.

Josh also helped us all fly high! That was so fun. Just so you know you don’t have to fly high if you are not ready. A few of the kids (mine included) opted to stay closer to the ground and let the instructor fly them around instead. The coaches were very understanding of this as well. Looking back on it afterwards, my son said that he wants to go back and try again. He even said that maybe next time he will fly high like the big kids did.

This is a great teaching experience for kids as well. My little guy had a million questions afterwards. He even woke up the next morning with more questions. iFLY must have seen how educationally beneficial their program is, because they even offer educational programs for schools and camps to take their classes to and learn about math, science and engineering at terminal velocity. I hope my boys can benefit from these programs when they are older. They also offer a variety of other programs, birthday parties and corporate retreats. What a fun adventure for people to share no matter what stage they are in life.
I’m proud of my little guy and so grateful for this experience. Thanks Austin Moms Blog, Do512 Family and iFLY! You made a 4 year old and his mama very happy! See you soon, we hope!
