One of my favorite things we have done as a family so far in ATX is attend one of the concerts at The SXSW Outdoor Stage this year. We grabbed some friends, brought a blanket and some snacks, and headed down to this FREE event with the kids in tow. The music was beyond amazing, the kids had a ball, and my husband and I were thrilled to be at an adult activity that was so kid-friendly. I started thinking that we need to find more live music spots that are family-friendly (we do live in the live music capital of the world after all).

With summer here, there is no shortage of live music to be found and below is a (condensed) list of some great spots that both adults and kids will enjoy.

Treaty Oak – This is one of our favorite weekend spots. This distillery offers food and drinks and has a kids playground area and a huge field to run and play. They offer live music every Saturday and Sunday.

Unplugged at the Grove – Shady Grove has been doing Unplugged at the Grove for 25 years and these shows are free and open to all ages. The concerts are every Thursday evening at 8pm and run from April until September. Let the kids stay up late and grab dinner and fabulous music for a true Austin experience.

Saturday Night Concert Series– The Hill Country Galleria has a concert series that runs in the spring and fall every Saturday night. The current spring schedule runs until June 9th. My kids love these shows on the great lawn where you bring your own picnic and blanket. They even have a face painter on site for the kids.

Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company – Yes, a family-friendly beer garden. It is open to all ages and has live music a few nights each week (most starting at 9) but the Sunday shows start around 4 in the afternoon.

El Gaucho Winery – This winery touts itself on being extremely family friendly and has live music on both Saturday and Sunday.

Iron Wolf Ranch and Distillery– This is a brand new distillery in Spicewood that sits on 15 acres and has a ton of games to play. They offer live music on Saturdays.

Texas Radio Live– Every Wednesday from 6-8 Sun Radio hosts these concerts at Guero’s Taco Bar in their Oak Garden.

Blues on the Green– This concert series is an Austin tradition that happens every summer in Zilker Park. The dates for the shows this year are May 23rd, June 13th, July 18th, and August 8th.

Central Market, North Lamar

Angel’s Icehouse

Cherrywood Coffeehouse

KUTX – This local radio station hosts a series of live music events and one that is known to be very family friendly is KUTX Live a Mueller Lake Park which is happening on May 18th.

Radio Coffee & Beer

If you wanted a weekly music fix for your kids in a mommy-and-me setting,  you could sign them up for this music class which introduces them to live music at a very early age.

Don’t forget about the many festivals and seasonal events around Austin including ACL, SXSW, The Rodeo Austin, Pecan Street Festival, The Austin Symphony Children’s Events and Music Under the Star at The Bullock Museum which all have live music and are super family friendly.

Where is your favorite spot to watch live music with your kids? Did I miss any that you love?
