Drew, as a second baby, has a lot of ‘hand me downs’. Her wardrobe came from my sister, her stroller was her brother’s…very little is ‘new’ this time around. I figured I would treat my babies the same. After all, if it worked the first time, it should work again, right? WRONG! Drew is her own person and a very different baby from her brother.

How does this adorable person confound me so much?

I’ve had to change things up from what I planned and this is my list of what I have needed {and didn’t expect} this time around.

Baby Gear Items

1. Rock ‘n Play – Drew has reflux. Nothing bad but enough that she sleeps better if she’s not flat on her back. Enter the Fisher Price Rock ‘n Play. She sleeps so great in here at night! So good I’m a little scared of transitioning her to the crib {grin}.

My sweet sleeping baby – she was so tiny!

2. Nursing Cover – I didn’t nurse Trent much in public, I mostly took a pumped bottle of milk where I went. Drew is not a fan of the bottle and has only taken milk from it once. I’m a wee bit stressed about fixing that before I go back to work. But it has made me much more comfortable nursing in public! I just whip out my Lilia cover with my awesome nursing tank and we’re set!

3. Ergo Carrier – Drew hates the car seat and stroller. Like screams bloody murder. It breaks my heart to keep her in it any longer than she has to be. So anytime we aren’t in the car, I typically wear her. April posted last week all about babywearing. I am a huge fan but used mostly soft carriers with Trent (Moby, ring sling). I wanted to try a structured carrier and went with the Ergo, and a love affair was born!

4. Stroller Strides –  I was more eager this time around to start exercising. Partly to get back into shape but more so to get out of the house. A wonderful friend sent me the info for Stroller Strides, I tried it out and loved it! It’s a chance to connect with other moms, exercise AND interact with your baby. I’m not ready to go back to the gym and be away from Drew, so it’s the perfect solution. Right now, I have to wear Drew (see #3), but even with her strapped to me, I get a great workout.

So there you have my list of a few {of the many} surprises for this second time mama.

What are your must have baby items? Did you find you needed different stuff the second time?
